Two consecutive runs, the first floor bossfight also had a fucking wall mimic. I hadn't seen these bastards before, but in the last week or so I think I've encountered atleast five of the fuckers, two of which fucked up my bossfights (which were already going poorly because I had no weapon drops since I insisted on trying to lockpick shit and it almost always backfired)

Still designing an airship. Added some CRAM cannons along the two gunnery decks, 5 on each deck, therefore 10 on each side. 730mm gauge, 5:3 hardener:explosive fill, and it takes a minute or two to reach 100% density but appreciable damage at around 20 seconds. Apparently this is not enough to punch the armor of the OW-Bastion. After concentrated fire, it will strip large portions of the deck off, but it's not enough to really kill it. Could be good to pirate them in campaign though...

Tried to do a combat test against three Bastions(first test was against a single, AI-disabled dummy), all with AI enabled. Naturally, they started shooting directly at the ammo stores. I had however distributed the ammo boxes around, so one shell wouldn't detonate half the ship(happens with my other designs). My cannons were ineffective, as stated, so I tried to do a bombing run, hoping to at least take out their cannons with a storm of fragmentation. Gave up when I saw that they were pointing their cannons straight up through the turret housing(Bastion CRAMs should not have that kind of firing angle), and shooting the bombs as they were releasing, wrecking the bomb bay.

Touched Spiral Pegasus too many times.  Then Neon Tiger.  Then Spiral Pegasus again.  Then Spiral Pegasus again.  Then got knocked into a hole by Storm Eagle.  Then touched Shield Sheldon too many times (at last!).

The challenge mode in the Mega Man X collection is... painfully hard.  Well, on easy mode it's so easy I could beat it while sitting on one hand (I routinely finished matches at 95%+ health), but on normal mode that difficulty skyrockets into holy crap this is impossible territory.  I honestly don't know how to beat the combination of Neon Tiger and Spiral Pegasus at once.  Spiral Pegasus is gigantic, and both have a tendency to jump around into opposite corners of the room before Neon Tiger starts spamming projectiles.  Then if you get Spiral Pegasus to less than 50% health, he starts rushing across the screen from random locations, which is impossible to dodge if you accidentally pick the wrong spot to stand.  In his normal boss arena this isn't true since there's much more space, but in Neon Tiger's boss arena...

Twice I was able to beat the combination by getting lucky with killing Neon Tiger with his weakness before I was too far gone to beat Spiral Pegasus, but then I went up against Volt Kraken and Shield Sheldon with almost no health left and no lives.  Results were predictable.

Ugh, whatever.  I wrecked them on easy mode and got the achievement.  Life is too short to beat it on normal mode, much less hard...

I designed a similar CRAM setup on a ship recently (except only one layer so 5 on each side, and then 3 forward facing + a larger sabot advanced cannon).  I just went with relatively small gun, 8 explosive pellet boxes, no fuses and no hardeners.  They miss, they bounce, but they shoot so many explosive shots that it will get through armor eventually.  They can kill a Bastion, hell 4 of those ships beat a kingstead without taking tooooo much damage (ship cost 55k).  Hardeners don't add any AP to the explosive component of the shell, so unless the kinetic component can break through armor without detonating I'm not sure hardeners are doing much for you.  Or if you're trying to break through a LAM.

I'd focus on your own defenses against OW.  Their ratio of useful components compared to armor is insanely skewed towards armor; even if you can punch through their armor its impossible to set off a chain reaction.  You should see how useless HEAT is against them.

I am not good at this game, and it's been a long time since I played. Just getting that out of the way first.

I arrange my six-man squad to ambush an ADVENT pod. I had lost my first skulljack and lost more than a week building the replacement, and was determined to get a hold of this pod's officer and snag whatever information Tygan was so hopped up about.

The ambush went off without a hitch, the officer wounded while his comrades died, and my first skulljacking was a complete success. Some sort of crazy hologram creature showed up, but I vaguely remembered that being a thing when skulljacking and wasn't unduly worried. I had plate armor, I had mag weapons, it wouldn't be much of an issue.

And that was when some sort of monster came barreling out of a neighboring building. A monster with 3 armor and three massive health bars. It was an absolute beast in close combat and it got an action for every one of my own. It was the Berserker Queen and although I didn't know it at the time, I was totally screwed.

The codex's first action was to create some sort of swirly thing centered on my squad. More than half my soldiers had their weapons instantly disabled, unable to fire until they could reload. I had one of the dudes outside of the vortex chuck a grenade at the berserker, trying to shred some armor, but that just pissed it off and she used her resulting reaction turn to smash him flat. I have another dude reload, and she runs for my knot of disabled soldiers. I try to have one flee, and she knocks two more of them down. They aren't dead, merely unconscious, but I already know I'm in deep trouble.

The enemy's turn comes around and the swirly thing explodes, killing the two unconscious soldiers and sending a third into a panic. He runs around, shoots the berserker for piddling damage, then gets critkilled by the codex. That's three men dead, one out for the mission, and two guys left in close quarters with an unstoppable beast, with the evac point clear on the other side of the map past I-don't-even-know-how-many as yet unseen pods of foes.

That was the point I ragequit. I couldn't stomach seeing my last good squad, carrying the last of my expendable gear, get wiped out by such a combo.

Fucking hell, the shrieker is a veritable bitch.

I think you mean to say "Thicc birb is dangery when angery".

Yeah, I'd advise just focusing on not dying when you fight it - That way you still retrieve the stolen trinkets, possibly get a shrieker trinket (I don't know for certain...), get Shrieker quirks, etc.

I ran into a bandit fortress without a companion, over and over again, until I walked back to the city, found a Sellsword, and then died again.

Added forward-firing cannons to the airship. They work... except I forgot to limit their firing arcs, resulting in explosive/frag shells going right into the forward section. Also tested the ship against some of the normal-difficulty DWG airships. I forget the name(might have been the Simoon), but it took out hundreds of blocks in a single salvo. It's quite disconcerting watching in slow-mo as a single shell causes layer after layer of the hull to melt away. In fact, that was the only enemy so far to actually damage the airship's lift core enough to bring it down.

Was a few tiles away from finishing a puzzle, when my mom opened the storage compartment by the gear shift, smacking my elbow without warning and causing me to push the wrong tile, ruining the entire puzzle.

Was playing as the Sabai (South Arabian faction, basically every unit is an archer first and a melee combatant second, save for one unit of camelry [who were mounted archers anyway]. Yes, camelry. As in, rides camels to war.), pushing into rebel Kush over at the southern end of the map, on the Nile.

When the "activated" rebels faction (Called Eleutheroi, meaning "free men", as in "not part of major polity at this point in history") rolled up a second army, I should've run away. I did not run, and instead foolishly allowed my line infantry to shoot all their arrows. Cue me shooting the rest of the arrows at the regular-speed weak infantry the enemy used in the first wave. When the slower Native Egyptian Phalangites started rolling in, I rapidly ran out of units in reserve. The camels routed, came back, routed, came back, routed...and left the field. Leaving me, wondering whether one more good camel charge could've broken that blasted unit of militia spearmen tying down my commander's unit.

Attrition does not favor the guy who is fighting phalangites from the front. I managed to get the commander off the field (final total of men in the bodyguard unit: 2), but three quarters or better of the army (and all of the "good" units that don't rout really, REALLY easily) are dead. Oh, and I didn't take the town, either. But I did kill ~50% of the enemy's armies, so you know, not that bad for being outnumbered 2-to-1.

I didn't have these problems as the Greeks! Why did the nation reliant on archers and surrounded by guys who love archers rely on units with pathetically small shields and no armor??? Screw it I'm sending a guy to Ptolemaic lands and hiring nineteen companies of mercenary hoplites. Nobody has enough arrows to kill off armies using hoplites as the primary line infantry.

Turns out that digging a hole to hide in isn't much protection against a tornado since debris has a wierd tendency to bounce into it and smack you in the fucking face, and it seems any speed is potentialy harmful so even things gently tumbling into the hole after hitting a side wall are dangerous. Three or four smacks and you're dead :V

Yeah, I generally just dig down and then plug the hole if I've gotten caught out by a storm.

And yeah, game's fun. Some fucked-up economics (uhh... why, exactly, should I be using coal instead of biofuel for generators?) and the plants are just straight up weird at times, but it's cool. Lots of bouncy spaceman action.
