So I started up a Distant Worlds campaign this evening and found myself starting in a system with another civilization. What made this start particularly interesting was that my home planet and my neighbor's planet's orbits were within spitting distance of each other going in opposite directions. Jousting planets hoooo!

Since this was early game and I had started without any techs (including shields) being researched, I decided to make a large fleet of cheap throwaway ships while my neighbor built defensive stations. As soon as the planets got within firing range, I started up Holst's "Mars" and declared war, expecting an epic planet fight.

Once the war was declared, my brave fleet immediately fled in the opposite direction, allowing the enemy to destroy my space port. Without a port to refuel at, my fleet was hunted down and destroyed one-by-one. My foe had gained total space supremacy which basically forced me to quit the campaign.

I'm not sure why my fleet fled, perhaps it was because they were designated as escort ships? But I had set their behavior to be aggressive regardless of relative foe strength. Ah well.

I found some Dwemer Spheres. I was not at all ready to take them on. At level 16, they just whack me a few times and I flop over dead. Time to do some sidequests, get some more levels, and hopefully find some Glass armor.

By default, ships will flee battle if they take damage past shields. This includes if they take damage with no shields are present. This is why railguns are so cheesy, they bypass shields, making the ship think it needs bug the hell out of there even if they're facing a tiny escort with a single railgun that managed to poke a hole in a single armor plate(out of a hundred), even if they have a damage control system to repair it.

You can change this behavior for each ship design in the design editor.

Frickin' Ceaseless Hitbox.

I think he killed me about... twelve? times. He hit me about five. The bugs are a lot less visible when you have more than nine vitality.

So he battled the Eldritch Horrors.
Traversed the Non-Euclidean Path.
Braved the Nightmarish Landscapes.
And faced the maniacal cultists in their hellish lair.

The guide I was following recommended killing a random treasure hunter in a cave just outside town. I do so. I go to search the body and the game crashes to a development console.

Basically just spent the last six hours of game play dying repeatedly and trying to learn from my mistakes.
Launched off bridges three times
Eaten by a hentai tentacle that popped out of a loot chest
Head caved in by a minotaur-thingy with a huge-ass hammer.
Stepped on by an elder ogre (I realize now I've only killed one of these the fair way, killed the other three by luring them off of ledges. Hey, it works. When they don't punch me off the ledge first)
Eaten by two different zombie dragons x10
I'm pretty sure there were more, but I can't remember them all.

Also had a pawn eaten alive by said hentai tentacle chest because I couldn't reach her in time, and the other two pawns launched off of a bridge by an elder ogre. Which I then lured off the same bridge. Then there was the pawn that got eaten by a zombie dragon or something. Wasn't out long enough to respawn, I don't think, just vanished. So I assume they got eaten.

Dragons dogma, dark arisen. Fucking bitter black isle.

Ally AI is seriously garbage. Playing 3v3, my two AI allies decided to park several Pioneer squads in front of my base and do nothing else, while the enemy swarmed over my front line in jeeps. And it doesn't help that the enemy cheats with resources, because they had armored cars well before that should be possible.

That was the issue, thanks. Now my fleets are slightly less derpy!

For some reason Skyrim is CTD'ing every ten steps, so I decided to play some Daggerfall. Been on an Elder Scrolls kick lately.

First dungeon I enter must have had ten spiders in the first room. Paralysis and then I die.

TES II: Daggerfall. I hope to beat this game but I doubt it's ever going to happen.
