That moment when you have no psi-energy left and your only gun jams while fighting a cyborg midwife.

I.  Hate.  Farms.  Ive decided that the worst mapstyle is farms, and the worst weapon to equip a soldier with is that crappy 1-shot rpg.

All of my highest casualty maps have been farms.  This time I went to get an *leader* from a downed ship and we unknowingly walked into 6 rifle-weilding burst-shotting Caeseans.  Or w.e. their proper name is.  It was a killing field as it was all I could do to direct three boys around the side (4 turns) while everyone else got pinned down and peppered up.  The survivors (1 heavy, 2 shieldmen, and a rocketman who did fuckall the whole time for lack of a shot) will now retrieve the stun batons and try this or die doing it.

---
On the plus side, Ive decided vehicles are surprisingly awesome.  Will use more.
---

Xenonauts.  I take out my A-team for 1 damn map, and hell breaks loose.  Terror mission?  0 casualties.  Old MacDonald's Farm?  all of them.

I took a speed boost hypo to escape a bunch of cyborg assassins blocking my path. I was going to walk down a ramp, but my insane speed caused me to fly sideways and slam into a wall and die. System Shock 2, ironically enough, does not approve of performance enhancing drugs.

Alright, I get the map with the warehouse, office,  and parking lot, and proceed to clear out the buildings and lot, taking out two sectoids. The thin men that had activated with the sectoids skedattled, so I hunted up and down after grabbing the only meld I could get, and finally get a clue they went out to the street. So, I move to the end of the street, but move my support a bit to far around the corner, spotting one of them. end turn, the thin man takes a shot, but misses. Alright, I run and gun my assault around the corner, drawing an overwatch from the second thin man who deals two damage, nothing to worry about, but my assault misses and destroys the wall instead-which detonates the entire line of cars behind the wall, Including the one I had my rookie and sniper parked in preparation to rushing the corner. Naturally, they are KIA, and I just rage-quit in disgust. Seriously, one shotgun blast does all that?!

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

That's happened to me before, I think something about that map changed when they released EW.  That's some shit luck triggering it with a shotgun though.

I was excited that I finally figured out how to open some of the locked doors using my ID card. I promptly opened a door and was sucked out into space.

First couple of rounds trying to understand whats going on in SS13.

Man, fuck Chryssalids. I can handle them usually but every once in a while long war likes to just throw like 20 of them all at you at once. If you aren't lucky enough to see them long before they see you or be in a very defensible position that's that. And to top it off the pod leaders often have lightning reflexes, so even things like mass overwatch don't always work. I just lost all but one of my squad mates in a single turn where I spotted the chryssalids, they used there extra move to run towards me, then ran towards me again on the next turn, instantly killing 5/6 of my squad and leaving the last one with only 1 hp in the middle of all of them. (Despite the fact I had two squad mates with close combat specialist).

Edit: And to top it off it seems like the autosave didn't feel like saving between the beginning of the last mission 2 hours ago and the point where all of my team was dead. RAAGH!! >:(

If you're wearing an ID with access, you can just walk into the door.  Welcome to SS13, where the horrible interface is only outdone by the creative psychopathy of the players  ;D

I'd suggest playing as cargo tech or botanist, they're good roles for learning the game without any real pressure.  As cargo tech you can learn by assisting the Quartermaster by dragging crates around the station (or watching them break open crates to establish Cargonia).  As botanist you can mess with plants and chat with the chef, or just hang out in the cafe and watch situations arise.

Managed to bypass the Hungarian king's power to crash the game. A few years later, destroyed the Golden Horde with help from Egypt. Egypt decided to play Jihad Joe with me on that province the Horde fell.

Meanwhile, the Papacy came back, spawning 3000 high-tier troops on Rome. I bug out and evacuate, burning the castle. Hungary disrupts my trade/amphibious invasion lines. I gear up for a major battle, 1600 of mine against their 1400. I win, killing 500, capturing 300(might have been better than that), losing 300. The game crashes.

I made myself and armor and decided to go try to clear out a hive, but the spitters outnumbered me far more than I anticipated and chewed through my armor like nothing in a matter of seconds.

A single light-plasma shot from an incredibly long way across the map (how the hell do sectoids see that far, anyway!?) managed to critically-hit and kill one of my rookies who was, unfortunately, only behind half-cover at the time.  The other rookie standing next to his now-corpse panicked, but fortunately did nothing worse than hunker down next to the sack of meat that used to be his compatriot.

I got blown up by a trap.

The Evil Within.  I gotta say I'm hooked by this game.  I love video games but I don't like playing video games, which is perfect because in The Evil Within control is frequently taken away from the player, or he's given non-agency like the ability to move in one direction no matter which direction he pushes.

I love that.  I also find it really scary in horror games when I'm given an array of cool weapons to fight the monsters with.  It really frightens me to have the tools to easily solve a problem, and I love this new trend of adding hiding places to horror games.  It provides great tension when you run into a room with only one entrance and no features except for a closet and you watch the enemy try to figure out if I'm in the closet or in the closet or in the closet or in one of the room's zero other hiding places.  He's never figured it out so far because the developers at least know enough about game design to know that if you give the player a hiding place that the enemy can just find him in is unsatisfying (and having a random chance is also unsatisfying when it's a random chance of unavoidable death) and I'm a fucking idiot so I still find it tense to watch him search when I know he isn't going to find me.

Fuck this stupid-ass game.
