Not a real death but the end result is the same: rushing back to the Pokemon Center after a level 17 Graveler wiped the floor with most of my party, except for my severely overleveled Wartortle and Kadabra.

Training is really starting to get tedious, since I didn't pick very good Pokemon to build my A-team on: Pidgeotto, Weepinbell, Graveler, Kadabra, Wartortle and a Beedrill that I'm trying to replace with Vulpix, or Onix, or Pikachu, or anything except another bloody Bug type. To get anywhere that has an Electric-type from Lavender though, I'd have to either go through the Rock Cave and overlevel my Wartortle even more or start fighting trainers that I don't have the right type of 'mons to counter unless I cheese Kadabra (which I've been avoiding due to over/underleveling issues).

Pokemon Blue.

Get rid of Beedrill, it's dead weight. The rest are fine.

A slight issue with Graveller and Kadabra not being evolvable unless you're using tricks, but Blastoise (obviously), Pidgeot, and Victreebel are good. Beedrill really tops off around level 30 due to bad base stats. I'd probably get a Raticate for the moment.

Ragequit after Distant Worlds made me get a critical research failure on hyperdrive technology FOUR TIMES.

Everyone else had them at that point. I was the only one without, because the game went 'Fuck you. Fuck you. Fuck you again. Fuck you...'

Heh.  One time I was playing Life (the board game) at a friend's house and hit the tornado four times.  It's near the start but sends the player back about a dozen squares.  The nice thing about playing with friends is that we all laughed together (also Life is a stupid no-skill game for casuals  8))

Some guerrillas asked me to clear out an oasis full of other guerrillas to secure them several crates of gold.  I can't take any gold.  They won't ask their soldiers in the field not to shoot me.  Okaaaay...

I get a call from Flora who actually tells me what the hell is going on.  She sends me on a sidequest to assassinate the puppet king, and in return she convinces all the enemy guards to leave the oasis!  Sweet!  The prince even gives me a truck with gold rims in return for assassinating his father.  Gotta love royalty.

Apparently I still need to "tag" the gold though, so I drive over to the oasis.  Flora's there to back me up, and says the troops will return any second.  Huh, well I have a sniper rifle... I spend a few minutes scanning the desert horizon.  Pretty good visibility, should be able to pick them off as they approach no problem.  Where... are they?

Oh, I'm supposed to climb down these two ladders into a well and tag the gold with my phone, alright.  The *instant* I do so, gunfire explodes from above.  10 seconds later I emerge from the well to find Flora dying, and 4 ARA soldiers at SMG range shooting me up.  I eventually take them out with a pistol, but the other six take me down as I'm trying to heal Flora (apparently you have to hit H multiple times to progress through the healing process, I sat there taunting her with the syringe for a while).  Warren dragged me to "safety" (I do love that mechanic) but there was little cover to be had in the desert.  Warren went down, and I shortly after.

So basically completing the side quest gives you a NPC to protect and forces you to get ambushed in the desert, instead of assaulting from a distance.  And I don't see any way to *keep* the gold-rimmed truck, though it did make me laugh.  Still, I did pull through on my third attempt despite THREE GUN EXPLOSIONS.  I should stop using scavenged weapons...

I'm actually *really* enjoying this!

You actually need to just kill every human being on the island and camp the docks to blow up any incoming ships, until the island is desolate except for you and your NPCs. Then you can sidequest to your heart's content.

That and the entire game you have freaking malaria.  It's the worst thing for your gun to jam/explode, get a malaria fit, get hit by a car, watch your friend go down as they drag you away, run out of healing syringes, and then find out you're out of malaria medicine.

That game is full of frustrating game mechanics (also, in the first Farcry you get injected with super-awesome-predator DNA which makes you strong and fast.  Second game you get malaria.  How much fun is that?)

I actually really liked a lot of those game mechanics.  They lent it to be more of a survival game, but not so much that it was frustrating.

...you didn't take the time to grab a pikachu in the forest? I know it's not much better than the bugs, but it's fast and has a type advantage to several common mons trainers use (birds/water types/things with low special).

If you're doing a Nuzlocke run, though, I can understand why. Your chances of your first mon in the forest being a pika is pretty damn low...

I had no idea that Pikachus were available so early. I'm looking up as little as possible to keep the experience fresh (I thought a bug 'mon would be a good idea, after all) so I didn't realize that the Pokedex could show me where certain mons lived until I was far, far away from both of the areas where Pikachus can be found.

That said, I've decided to skip over Blue for now and start Crystal instead. Boy howdy things are different o_o I nearly flipped when the Poliwags in the first few Routes already knew Bubble, until I saw how nerfed it was compared to Blue.

Wow. I've pulled levers that just filled the room with acid, but never the whole level. Ouch.

It gets worse, you can pull a level that fills every tile with lava.

When you enter levels with a whole floor lava/acid lever, you get a feeling that notifies you (after which you really shouldn't pull any levers on that level at all).

-snip-
Yeah a lot of the sidequests involving backup characters usually involves a trigger that automatically downs them.

@haters(not really :p) Farcry 1 was by far the best imo, and Farcry 2 was also very good, but in so many different ways that it shouldn't have been a sequel. The two bear no resemblance aside from the guerrilla style warfare and open world, which grew more and more limited with successive titles IMHO. Farcry 1 was also the best looking but I think that's because it was a lot brighter and there was a lot of water. Tropics are prettier than sahara. You had awesome feral abilities in Farcry 1 that balanced AWESOMELY with your gunplay, meaning you could actually combine the two abilities to double your effectiveness. Plus jumping on people and mauling them is cool.

In Farcry 2 I was actually annoyed at the frequency at which you would get malaria attacks. They were really far apart. I'd usually go so long between episodes that I had a massive stockpile of antibiotics by the end of the game. I was also surprised at how the game was broken into two large maps, which was weird but I don't remember being annoyed by it. I can't remember if it let you go back to the first one or not.. Regardless I really liked how big the maps were, and its one of the few (no?) games that touts the "multi-approach combat" and actually pulls it off. Your weapon slots were really valuable, and I can't tell you how much time I spent standing in the stockpile holding the flamethrower in one hand and the mortar in the other when I got a convoy intercept mission.

Taking out radio towers is cool.
Ambushing/smashing through guard posts is cool.
Using IEDs on convoys is cool.
Starting a brush fire to make good your escape is cool.

Finding diamonds is annoying.
Tattoos are dumb.

Wrestling sharks and first person hunting is weird and also fun when it isn't frustrating.
Hang gliders are funny.

You can't really run out of pills. You have infinite until you hit a certain story checkpoints that trigger more church missions

The only way to "run out" is to not do the church mission when it pops up, your next pill will be the last one. If you still don't do the mission, eventually you have another attack and pass out then wake up in the church with 1 free pill.

Once you've done all the church missions (there's like, 5 or 6 IIRC) you never run out of pills again.

My brother, who is level 50 has all purple-rarity or higher equipment, challenged me to a duel. I am level 48. He shot me once. I died.
