Intentionally shot Emma Emmerich because I was done playing for the night and she was already heavily on my nerves. I wanted to drop her in the zero-buoyancy water where you fought Vamp.

Metal Gear Solid 2. I've already posted about why she annoys me so much in the Pet Peeves thread, but god damn does she rattle my chain.
If you combo-kick guards when they're near railing they fall over it. Perhaps it will work on EE? I've never tried before, curiously enough. I've done claymores, C4, letting guards shoot her, breaking her neck, shooting her limbs, dragging her over ledges while she's unconscious.. The list goes on.

I tried kicking her over the railings in the Vamp room, but she always stops just short of falling in the pool. Dragging her to the edge just causes her to scrunch up against an invisible wall. I have yet to take her to a connecting bridge though, so maybe that'll work. In real-world terms though, I'm thinking she might be too short to fall over the railing just from that.

Tree-less desert map, limited water access, no real profit avenues (exporting salt and ceramics wasn't as profitable as I thought) and constant raiding by other chinese cities isn't my forte. The fortress of Lanzhou lasted 6 years, so meh.

Funny.. I've dropped her in the Vamp room before.. Or haven't I? O.o

No dice on the connecting bridge. When you go back to it there's ramps over the holes and wire where the railing is fallen or twisted, unless you meant you were going to try and kick her over. I remember the first time I played the game I was actually really concerned about that even while I was swimming her back, because I remembered that I had to flip over the holes in the bridge to get there. It really surprised me how the game solved that while creating a reason for the guards to have repopulated the flooded strut.

-snip-

What I don't get is how hundreds of bugs mysteriously appeared in the middle of the hallway for no real reason, and then Emma's fear of bugs is never mentioned again. And the cell phone, which you only get one message on for the entirety of the game despite having it for much longer.

The entirety of Emma's segment doesn't really make sense to me from a writing standpoint, though. She's mentioned briefly in the Tanker chapter, you suddenly learn more about her halfway through the Plant chapter, and then she's present for all of 15 minutes before the entire thing ends on a pointless and rather mean-spirited note. I get that she's partially supposed to be a parallel to Meryl from the first game, but Meryl was kind of flirty and a strong ally for Snake to back up her more emotional side. Emma's just kind of whiny and needy and doesn't matter for 80% of the game.

I really feel like MGS2's story could have benefited from somebody giving Kojima a strong slap across the wrist once in a while, which is a damn shame because it's even better than the first in terms of gameplay.

So as not to derail the thread too much, I got spotted when more guards suddenly appeared as I was dragging Emma along. I'd gone ahead and cleared the entire thing, leaving the bodies where they fell because I didn't assume guards would just spawn from nowhere as I was dragging Emma through.

Shot twice and then one hit melee killed in a single turn by a goblin.
Serves me right for trying to play as an Elf, I guess.
As for most recent death in a game other than Dwarf Fortress...
I haven't played any other games since I started playing Dwarf Fortress.

Well if you call Otacon or the Colonel on the Codec they'll tell you about what the bugs are and why they're there. They're also in the hard-suit docks beneath Strut A so it stands to reason they enjoy or breed in open water like you'd find in the flooded strut ('H' I think it is?). Also, why would they need to mention her fear of bugs more than once? I don't get it. >.> You also get three messages on the cell phone, if I'm not mistaken. Perhaps more. One if you approach the claymores around the Vamp Room after you return to it with Emma without the mine detector equipped, one when you stand near the flames on the Shell 1-2 Connecting Bridge without using the Coolant Spray, and one if you hang around the sea lice in the flooded strut long enough. It's also used in one of the Snake Tales in Substance to track down Jennifer.

There's quite a bit more to her story than you're making out to be. She talks a lot about Otacon's relationship with her, and you get to learn about Otacon's early life and his horribly unhealthy family life as well. Her death later on also gives Otacon a reason to tell you about his stepmother, who committed adultery with him. She also uploads the worm cluster (which she programmed in advance, but I'll get to that) to destroy GW. Meryl is no comparison for this character. Meryl is a soldier who underwent intense training, whereas Emma's is a teenaged (teenaged mind you. Meryl was 20+ years old and a grown woman at the time of the Shadow Moses Incident) girl who's deathly afraid of water because she nearly drowned when she was young but MUST swim in order to escape with her life! And as if that's not enough for you, do you know what kicker number two is? Do you? Emma nearly drowned when she was a kid because Otacon was banging her mom when he was supposed to be watching her, which she also briefly witnessed (ouch). AND DO YOU KNOW WHAT KICKER NUMBER THREE IS? THE BIGGEST KICKER OF THEM ALL? Otacon's stepdad drowned trying to save Emma, also because Otacon wasn't there, also because he was banging his stepdad's wife at the time! KICKER NUMBER FOUR: EMMA EMMERICH PROGRAMMED THE ARSENAL AI TO GET BACK AT OTACON FOR KILLING HER FATHER AND BANGING HER MOM AND DESTROYING HER FAMILY. SHE IS QUITE POSSIBLY THE BIGGEST REASON EVERYONE IS THERE AND THE GAME IS EVEN HAPPENING IN THE FIRST PLACE. How much more sodding character could you pooooosssssiiibblllyyy aaaassskkk fooooorrrrrrr???!!! I'm practically choking on all this character here!!! You weren't listening hard enough. Or you played MGS1 first and you're [slightly?] biased.

I disagree. Kojima is at his best when given license to do what he wants, and he's done great things as a result, like the above. ^^

Rather than hold her hand, consider punching her out or tranq'ing her. It's faster to actually drag her. Unless that's what you were already doing. <3

I actually just really, really dislike Emma and her portion of gameplay. I'll admit that I skipped most of the cutscenes involving her this time around, but I don't remember really enjoying them to begin with. I will admit that the additional development for Otacon is great because I love Otacon, but I just absolutely can't stand Emma. Also, she pees her pants when you find her. It's quite a lot too. She smells like pee the entire time you're dragging her around.

I am proudly biased towards the first game, though. When my older brother moved out and took his Playstation with him, the PC version was the only game I had to play at the time so I learned to love it. The thing is, I absolutely hated it until I actually sat down and made myself play it for more than three minutes. Now it's probably one of my favorite games ever. I have yet to play The Twin Snakes, but I already know how I feel about the change in Grey Fox's voice and the newly over-the-top action cutscenes (meh and mehhh respectively. Can't get too mad about it).

My last two cents on MGS2's story, I really loved hearing about Jack as a child soldier. That was AMAZING. The Codec call where Rose tells Jack about going into his room and finding absolutely nothing in it was beautiful. As much hate as Jack and Rose get, there was some great drama there.

Trying a Nuzlocke run of Pokemon Fire Red, just playing around. My starter was a Charmander I named "Flamey", and by the time I get to Erika it's a lvl 31 Charmeleon. So I send it out, thinking it'll dominate. First fight, it does. But then Erika sends out the Weepinbell. It manages to survive the first ember and paralyse Flamey. Then it proceeds to get out an acid, and survive the second Ember. Probably should of pulled Flamey out there, but he could of survived another Acid and another Ember would do it. Weepinbell gets a Critical Hit, Flamey goes down. :'(

Fortunately, I also have DeeSee. A lvl30 Hypno who I sent out and just start using waves of Confusion. Every single Confusion is a critical hit, every single one takes out one of Erika's pokemon. DeeSee was clearly as pissed as I was over his fallen comrade. I believe I vaguely remember shouting "DESTROY HIS MIIIIND!!!! TEAR HIS SOUL!!!" as it was happening xD

There's at least one more, when trying to destroy the generator powering the electric floor blocking the President, if you miss enough times firing from the southern area of the strut, you'll get one suggesting you go to the room west of that(which has gun cameras in it).

Oh, and if you want to drown Emma, tranq her when she's crossing the pontoon bridge.
She's supposed to be parallel to Sniper Wolf, actually, not Meryl(that's Olga's hat). It's supposed to mimic the tragic death of a woman Otacon loved following a sniper battle.

Fine, how about some actual deaths then?

Got my 'nads impaled on a spike protruding from the floor of an elevator. Instant death due to testicle loss, apparently.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Saw an obvious trap, a serious of awesome-looking blades alond the ceiling, ready to drop down. Being too lazy to walk across the hall(would have taken 2 seconds, really) to pull the lever to trigger it safely, I figured I was fast enough to just blow through.

Yeaaaaah no.

Q: What's Hal Emmerich doing when you first meet him in MGS1 after defeating Grey Fox? What's the first thing he does when Snake opens the door?
What's Emma Emmerich doing when you first meet her in MGS2? What's the first thing she does when Raiden opens the door?

A: Hiding in a locker. He pisses himself.
Hiding in a locker. She pisses herself.

Emma is Otacon in this story (she 'made' that story's iteration of Metal Gear), and later she fills Sniper Wolf's plot shoes when she's stabbed by Vamp and dies in Otacon's arms. The whole game is supposed to be a mirror of the Shadow Moses incident.

I get all that though. I have beaten the game and seen all the cutscenes, you know. I was partly trying to lighten the mood by saying that she peed herself since it looked like this was starting to turn into an argument.

Killed by a Metal Gear RAY after taking down six of them. I hate those stupid knee rockets.
