Another one of those fun Crusader Kings scenarios. I was doing quite well as the duchess of Benevento, happily married to Prince Henri of France. At the time, he was third in line for sucession, but since I'm the least aggressive player of all time, I took no note of it.
Then Henri's father died of consumption. A few months later, his older brother was killed fighting in the crusade for Anatolia. Henri was now king, and my character queen, with her young son now in line to inherit a duchy and a kingdom. All through no deliberate effort or planning on my part.
Just one problem. Henri had a younger brother. This brother did not seem to like the fact that France would some day no longer be controlled by his dynasty. Rather than start a faction dedicated to overthrowing his brother, or changing the laws of succession, he turned to murder. First my son was wounded, then killed. His sister followed. I tried several times to have him killed (i figured out who must be responsible pretty early on) with no luck. It was only after wounding my second son that he went into open rebellion. A few months later, King Henri died of stress (understandable) and about a year later, Duchess Rosalind followed him
Leaving me in control of the eight year old, maimed king of France, fighting a losing war against my rebellious, murderous uncle. My heir is my three year old sister. Again, this character hasn't died yet, but it's only a matter of time. I only know one thing.
His uncle is going to go down first.
Sometimes I think I would do better in this game if I actually planned things, but I also think that might be less fun. Winning is boring. Skating on the brink of complete disaster is where it's at.
