I didn't find cyberdisks that difficult, honestly. If one shows up just focus fire on it. Ironically, Mutons for me seem to be obsessed with killing SHIVs, which means they don't have time to kill my agents.

Normally, they don't give me much trouble myself... but this thing! -Every- single squadmate it killed was in full cover. Dwarven Human tantrum spirals don't help much either. >_>

It's more than a little silly, to be honest. :P

Responding to reports of abductions in downtown London, a squadron was quickly dispatched. Once on the ground, the team of five highly skilled and well-equipped commandos and a S.H.I.V. (remote super-heavy infantry vehicle) made quick work of three Muton warbands and Sectoid patrol.

Then a single Cyberdisc appeared.  ???

Ironically, the one soldier survived after all his comrades had been killed and managed to single-handedly destroy both the Cyberdisc and it's drone, after the latter had repaired the former to full health, was a rookie. From some insignificant and probably impoverished and illiterate African country, to boot!

This is why I never leave the base without my HEAT ammo.  Alien grenades + HEAT ammo = guaranteed 2 hit kill on a cyberdisc.  A HEAT rocket is a one hit kill, or close enough.

Thanks to some lucky early hunting trips, several hundred dried meat cuts were stocking my cellar, allowing me to spend a few months setting up a nice little log cabin and farm. Had some lifestock penned away, and several hundred more meat cuts smoking. My winter fur outfit was ready, and I had traded to get everything of use from the local villages, so I resolve to head on an expedition over the lake to the rich forigners on the other side to trade for thier wares. The journy was simple, and as I land my raft on the far side I see some bushes growing ready to be picked. Pick them I do, as well as a number of other bushes. Suddenly, an old man rushes at me from the trees - turns out he objected to my picking of his hemp crop. Well, a spear to the neck sorted him out with ease. Suddenly, from the shadows, an arrow hits me in the eye and I black out, before being kicked to death by a woman and a child.

There's also a sniper ability that deactivates the main weapon. And, as the cyberdisk has only a main weapon, it makes it useless for 1-2 turns.

But if your sniper has a line of site, then it's already dead.  Or dead enough that a pistol shot can kill it.
But yeah, if for some reason your sniper is unable to outright kill something, a disabling shot can buy you enough time to kill it.

This sound amazing, and I reckon I'll be looking into it in a minute or two- my thanks!

I'm not sure when snipers gain that ability, but I admit that my team is currently relatively low-tech and under-achieved. Laser weapons and skeleton suits and no one higher than captain, you see.  :-X

Ouch.  Both the abilities we mentioned are gained at Lieutenant, one up from captain.  If you ever do try using disabling shot a cyberdisc, be aware the effects are a bit random.  It might waste a turn hovering and not fix its weapon, or it might grenade you into oblivion.  Or it could use death blossom, but I've never seen the AI do that, probably because it only does 3 damage.

Good luck rebuliding your squad.  New Xcom can get really easy if you do well early on, and really hard if you don't.  Having laser weapons is a good sign at least.

That's one of my major problems.  Half the time, when I use disabling shot or surpression, they just chuck a grenade.

So I had my bow out, with sleep poison-coated arrows, drawing the string and aiming at the monster.....

....the monster that was sliding towards me at high speed....

...and crashed straight into me, knocking me out. Maybe bows aren't that great to use alone.

I whipped a UFO.

I formed an islamic pact with Saladin, Monty, Shaka, Ghengis, and my personal biotch Suleiman.  I was friendly with Napolean the Hindu from the other continent.  Everyone else was dead or halfway there.  Even Babylon got overrun by barbs on their little continent.  I knew we Americans were going to win by machinery; got bored and quit.  (ironically it was a desert map, and only my coastline had any sizeable population).  Note to self, 3 warmongers on friendly with you (and each other) makes it almost too dull.

The stupid scissors jumping out of the buildings in Cutman's stage. I don't even get why you would have robot scissors in the first place. I mean, scissors are a lot more likely to deform the material you're working with than almost any other cutting tool. And not only do they make robot scissors, they permanently attach them to the head of a sentient robot with arms and legs and a brain. They didn't even put them on his hand, where he could use them.

Giant Dingoes.  I cut at them with my sword, but one manages to bite my foot off.  At least I can say I brought a few down with me.
