"Incoming, right flank!"

I was hunkered down behind the barricade, desperately reloading my carbine. Russian elites rolled flanked the bulk of our troops, slaughtered the artillery crew and made straight for us. I popped up, shot an officer of theirs to the face, dropped back down as bullets struck pieces of the wood. I had no time to reload, so I grabbed an infantry musket of a fallen comrade and prepared for bayonet action. Soon enough a dozen Ruskies swarmed the proud French flag. Me and two others put up a fierce fight - I stabbed three guys - before someone shot me in the back. So there I collapsed, bleeding and my last sight being the damn Czarist lapdogs hoisting down the tricolor...

Not really a death, but the grey alien I'm supposed to protect has a giant head- so giant, in fact, that it intersects with my crosshairs no matter where I look. His weapon of choice has an extremely short range as well, so he's always running in front of me to take potshots. Do the math.

Ohhh man, as soon as you mentioned a grey alien with a giant head I thought of that game. :D I should really go back and play it again, now that I'm no longer a little kid with rather mediocre gaming skills... I remember how hard the game was for me. Great fun, especially in the multiplayer modes, but the later missions were painful.

The game's still very hard. It's really a shame that the escort missions are so BS, because otherwise it's a pretty fair challenge. The last level in particular is the best final level I've ever seen in an FPS: challenging, climactic, and satisfying when you finally beat it.

The escort missions are actually a bit cool in their own way: I actually ended up deliberately protecting my charges with my own energy-shielded body. I don't know why, but I think it's so cool that that is a viable strategy.

Ahem, so a man was running away from a horde of zombies and was in the middle of a(n empty) field when he saw two mounds of dirt... that were moving... in his general direction. Needless to say, graboids are Fun.

Got myself a sledgehammer, couple of guns, and a well stocked sewer base and was about to sleep and recover from the days injuries when I was interrupted and saw a bunch of ?s appearing. Killed the group and was removing the bodies from the door way when a couple of rats, and a snake popped up and broke my arms and legs just before some more zombies showed up.

Post made a little over an hour ago in how did you last own.

I had caps lock on while firing my rifle at a bee that was rapidly closing in on me.  I saw the mistake and turned caps lock off and fired again.  Without checking fire mode.

capF changes fire mode.
My rifle's alternate fire is a grenade launcher.

so tl;dr I shot a giant bee with a 40mm grenade at point blank range.

Not dead yet, but soon to be.
Kicked up Silent Hunter 4 to start a new campaign, hoping for a nice easy patrol of the Marshall Islands or something.
Nope. Infiltrate and recon Hiroshima harbour. As my FIRST mission. Goodbye cruel world.

I might as well be dead. Due to some very badly timed rumors about the companies I own, my savings went down from 4,252 (millions) to 3 (millions). This fact was not helped by the fact that my attempts to remedy the situation only made it worse.

Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to sell recycled food to get some quick cash... Ah well, so much for trying to increase my purchasing power.

The best part of that game:  Getting off the bloody skyranger. :)  Never knew what was going to toss a grenade into the ship with everyone on it.

You could always use Xcomutil or some similar program to fix the difficulty bug if you wanted to. It has been tweaked to work with Steam's version. Just throwing that out there.

To be honest, once I manage to do UFO defence, I'm moving onto TFTD, where they solved the 'always on easy difficulty' by making it 'always on impossible difficulty!'

TFTD: Because go fuck yourself!

On a serious note, TFTD has some nice little things that actually make the game a lot easier for me. Such as the 'save TU for kneeling AND shooting' buttons. Or the fact that you can examine your soldier's stats WHILE you're equipping them right before the mission. It really sucks bad to give the big guns to a weak ass motherfucker with low energy, then need them the whole mission because Lobstermen.

Was playing a Nuzlocke test run of Pokemon Soul Silver on a DS emulator using the Universal Pokemon randomizer. Picked a cyndaquil ('cause he's coo', man) starter from a choice of it, nidoran-male, or togepi, named the cyndiquil Ashes and set off.

I didn't even make it to Mr Pokemon's house, I ran into a lvl 4 Criketot that had Bide, and lvl 9 Ashes couldn't kill it in time. Ashes is now ashes...

You probably could have won if you stopped attacking. Remember, Bide only does damage if you do damage to the user while it is storing energy. Instead, try to lower the Bider's defense until the turn it unleashes. Then hit it with your best attack. Even if it tries to Bide again, with it's lowered defense it should be easy pickings.

Learned the hard way that vehicles have been made louder.  Attempted to get away on a bicycle.  It didn't work.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Worst part is that I had hollow bones, insect wings, quick, and well fitted sneakers.  58 base move cost, almost half.  So I don't think even the fast zombies would have been able to keep up with me if I just hoofed it.

Now I know why PKs are so hated. First encounter with them, I threw every goddamn grenade I brought and every goddamn grenade on the level and barely even hurt ONE.

Then I fired at him with most of the team and only managed to get him down to Heavily Wounded before him and his 4 friends fried my main character (after frying 4/5 of his teammates). Just for reference, my men were using 3 rifles (some of which can punch through walls), an FG 42 (which can punch through walls), a Panzershreck, and a carbine rifle. I'm beginning to think that I need to equip EVERYONE with rocket launchers before I'll even kill one.

Oh, and this isn't even my first attempt at them either. Le sigh, they're going to be an absolute pain to kill.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.
