My last Mech still working was lying prone on the ground due to having fallen from the impact of a badly damaged enemy alpha strike.
Fortunately the legs weren't broken despite that mech was too in a very bad state (due to the battle going into its end) and the gyro was still intact, so i had very good chances to stand up.

I still hoped i could retaliate in the next turn with some luck in the initiative rolls if i could shoot first.

Unfortunately this wasn't going to be, the attempt of standing up failed miserably, and the mech fell again in the attempt, but badly damaged one of the component that was already in its last moments, generating an explosion, destroying my last mech and the mechwarrior inside.

Very good game, that "Princess" bot can be very challenging.

Killed by a dragon. My hapless ruler, Lord of the Arbour, was forcibly called into war by King Luthor of the Reach, in his third rebellion against the Targaryens. Also of note was that for whatever reason (crown authority I guess) my king (and his very competent son / sole heir) were forced to co-lead the King's army. Basically, I had no control over my player character, or the sole dynastic heir, so all I could do was follow the king's army with my own and hope they didn't get slaughtered.

Initially the war went quite well, and the King/Arbour army managed to smash a good portion of The Rock / Westerlands, and a surprising number of troops. However, it did not come without our own losses: of the 34,000 men that we initially set off with, attrition and battle had withered us down to a mere 13,000.

Then came Harrenhall. With no respite, after taking Goodbrook to the west, we instantly set upon Harrenhall, but about halfway towards an opposing army appears. 8,000 men. Hah, we can take them, we have a very clear numerical advantage. Now, let's see which unfortunate sod we're about to ki-- Daella Targaryen, queen of Westeros. Fuck. She has a martial skill of 38. Fuck. She has a dragon.

Oh FUCK!

Luthor, turn back. Luthor, she has a dragon. Luthor......LUTHOR SHE HAS A FUCKING DRAGON NOW TURN BACK

To save time, I've compiled a few pictures which just about accurately sum up what happened next.

So I made it to Safe Haven in a beat up station wagon with a broken arm and a broken rib and with my best friend, my fictional younger sister, one of my fictional girlfriends, and Sirus dead for various reasons. Then some asshole asks me to gather fuel tanks and I get mauled by a zombie.

Watched LP.  May want.

It's pretty good though I'm kind of burnt out on it for today. If you liked Oregon Trail or you like zombie-themed survival horror games I'd recommend giving it a look. Works on my old Compaq from 2001 by the way so just about any machine from then on out can play it.

Collecting dog tags with my shiny new USP, I alerted a guard on the lower level when I shot one in the arm for his tags. I killed a ton of them and then let myself be killed rather than ruin my pacifist run, although I fear the guards I killed might have been added to my tally even though I died and continued.

Rad. If you're going for all tags you have to be on Extreme, just so you know. <3 Still trying to do the Plant chapter. I'm stuck on my second EE run.

Stabbed from afar by a gnoll with a halberd. I should've retreated back up the stairs before resting to avoid the gnoll wandering around, but noooooo. I can just blast him with rock blast like the other gnolls, I said. Lemme just hit shift-5 to wait until the gnoll wanders over to me without wielding my rocks for using rock blast at max power. That way the gnoll can catch me unprepared and finish me off, I said.

I'm stupid, I said.

No, I'm not going for all tags. Some rooms are just too painful, like the chemical treatment room (strut F I think) and most of the Marines. I'm not even sure how many of the Marines have tags. Probably all of them, just to fuck with players.

I thought there were different sets of tags for every difficulty?

I was in space, wiring the solars. While I was floating to another array I was, against all odds, hit by space dust (read: meteor) and put into critical. At least I wasn't a fugitive breaking into the HoS's office this time. :P

Surrounded and low on health. Read a teleport scroll. Run away for a few turns while HP dwindles down to 3. Teleport finally triggers.

Next turn:
Quote
Your surroundings suddenly seem different.
A giant spore comes into view.
The giant spore waves its rhizomes.
The giant spore explodes!
A fungus suddenly grows. The explosion of spores engulfs you!
You are confused.
One of your 3 meat rations is covered with spores!
Ouch! That really hurt!
You die...

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, of course.

Only the ones on Snake inside Arsenal Gear and dead Fatman change, so it still requires multiple playthroughs. Not so bad once you've got the extreme tags, cuz then you can just coast the rest. The game adds more guards on higher difficulties but otherwise patrols are the same for the original guards, so in order to see every guard, you gotta play on extreme.

FAKEEDIT: You know, maybe you do have to get every single guard on every difficulty. I'd have to check. Shouldn't be that hard, though I've never tried. I've only done bunches of Extreme playthroughs. If I had a determined friend to play with I would've done all the VR missions too by now.

I actually got very close to 100%ing the VR missions last time I owned the game. I only have one Plisskin mission to beat before I can move on to the next set of characters. It's been years and years though, so there's no way in hell I'd be able to beat it now. Damn grenade missions are too hard >:(

EDIT:

STRUT D IS AGONY OH MY GOD I DON'T KNOW HOW I EVER BEAT THIS GAME. I tried several times using many combinations of hanging off ledges and strategic breaking of necks, but I always end up seen by a guard just outside of my vision.

EDIT2:

In strut F I choked a guard by the neck and dragged him around the corner to shake him down. A second after successfully "Freeze!"-ing him, he decided that he wasn't my hostage anymore and instantly raised an alarm. This happened several times until I just broke his neck next time

MGS2 again.

Yeah usually I just come from strut C, hang down and catch the ledge below, pull myself up, disarm the bomb and then fall into the water to kill myself, because after you continue the bomb stays disarmed, then just avoid the damn place forever (or at least until you have to fight the Harrier). Or go get the M9 from the warehouse strut or the SOCOM silencer and headshot everyone, but I usually only do that on Extreme. I can KO everyone in there on Hard I think, as long as I'm patient. Don't forget that those gates near the rails can be used to dump bodies into the water. Just drag a guard into it and Raiden will toss him in the drink after a short animation. They're located at even intervals on both levels of the strut.

If you're holding a guard up, and another guard either sees you or the guy you're holding up, the guy you're holding up will spin around and kick you. If you don't have your gun out when you're standing in front of a guard, he'll try to kick you and then run away to radio for backup. If you don't keep your gun on the guard, he'll make a move for his gun and either shoot at you, or try to kick you before running away to radio for backup. In Strut F, if you're having trouble with cameras, don't forget that you can use the boxes on the conveyor belts to hide from them, if you have really good timing and reflexes, since those boxes move pretty quick. It's worth getting killed a few times to break all the cameras if you don't have the silencer for your SOCOM, since they stay broken even after you continue.
