Assuming that forest is the same forest I'm thinking of, you probably got spotted by a netted TD and sniped, likely by someone (or someones) else outside the forest.

no it was malinovka the game just started, i was on the southern spawn, not even close to camp line. it was pure unadulterated shit.

I was going to Mega-Mart to do some scavenging for Moria, and I saw a group of Talon Company Mercs slaughtering the raider guards.  Since It's been a year since I last played Fallout, I thought the would be friendly because I was only lever three or so and barely had a chance to do anything.  Turned out they weren't, but I managed to take down two of the three mercs, and had the other one wounded.  I started to advance foward so I could shoot him more accurately, and all of a sudden BOOM as the car I didn't see behind me exploded as it was hit from a laser pistol laser.  And the merc only had a few hit points left...

Fallout 3

I remember the first time (I'm pretty sure) that I played Fallout 3, I charged at that Mega-Mart, opened fire on the bandits through VATS with an assault rifle-- and burst into hysterics as some random bystander ran through and got cut down by my bullets in slow-motion.

Is is funnier in Fallout 1 and 2 when you are in power armor and a group opens fire with miniguns.  The cut down half of their buddies, but you are completely unharmed.

While it wasn't me that just died, there was one enemy left in the Bishop family casino.  I had to reload my plasma rifle, so I could shoot, but Marcus opened fire, killing both Cassidy and the cyberdog.  And my last load came from before I started shooting.  So now I have to go all the way back through that fight.

Fallout 3

Oh man, I remember my first playthrough of Fallout 3, I didn't know the cars exploded. I got to Minefield, where that sniper guy was...there were many explosions and facepalms and cars wtfexploding to my left and right.

It was a very memorable experience.

In fact, in Fallout 3 in general it seemed a majority of my deaths were from spontaneous nuclear carsplosions.

I once lost Dogmeat during the attack on the Super Mutant base with Brotherhood of Steel support(FO1). Dogmeat decided to bite one of the mutants in the ballsack(oh wait, they don't have any), when the BoS paladins decided to go full-auto with a minigun. They missed the mutant. What made it worse is I always take the Bloody Mess trait.

Of course, I quickly sniped the mutant. (Finesse trait, plus a whole lot of perception and a good gun skill makes eyeshotting things easy.)


EDIT: My last death.
It's hard enough trying to bring in a pirate's ship for salvage/bounty. But the police still shooting the guy with heavy missiles while I still have him in my tractor beam is just ridiculous. Especially when they miss...

Ad Astra. The start is a pain enough in the ass when the only economically viable option is salvage, and with the starting Taipan, that means only the smallest(and throughly blown up) ships can be taken.

The last three deaths saw me wandering in circles in Jabu-Jabu's Belly, looking for any indication of what I was supposed to do and how to do it without dropping Ruto. Eventually killed by jellyfish each time.

I can't even recall a time when I didn't know what to do to beat that game. Literally as far back as I can remember I've never been stuck.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Jabu Jabu was the reason I didn't beat OoT until just last year. Having to carry Ruto around really tested my patience.
I had to use a walkthrough to get by it, but I saw the level wasn't as hard as I was making it.

I've beaten down scores of Lobotomites, Securitrons, and everything else the Big Empty has to throw at me. Everything but that damned Legendary Bloatfly. I'm at the final battle. I whip out my Jury-Rigged Tesla Cannon and open fire in VATS. Pop pop. With a margin of their health left, I can only watch as plasma blasts strike me from the front. But oh! The Mysterious Stranger appears! Surely he will help me!
He shot it once, killing it, then pumped the remaining five shots into the corpse. I was let to stand motionless while he stood there.
