Drove a tank off a cliff. Unfortunately, the game also decided to put a checkpoint after going off the edge. Cue death happing over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Climbed a tower that only let me use magic. At least two types of enemies have a permanent Reflect spell, that cannot be Dispelled, one of whom has a crapton of hitpoints, no weakness, immune Death, Gravity, and that spell that banishes, and casts endgame-level spells. Most of the rest cast powerful attack spells, and often counterattack with Silence spells.

I get to the top of the tower, going through a good stock of MP recovery items, and find an accessory that allows casting two spells at once. Huzzah. Try to leave, and fight the boss. This boss is immune to everything but one elemental damage type(to which he is weak), but he changes his weakness every time he is hit with a spell, including Libra(which informs you if his current weakness, but then changes it. Quantum mechanics, eh?), and some of the elements he can become weak to are impossible to actually cast on him.

After savescumming like hell(using Libra to get his weakness, then reverting and using a spell that hurts him), I finally kill him. Turns out, on death he casts a spell that hits my entire party for more than twice their maximum hitpoints, killing them all without any way to stop it.

Halo: Combat Evolved
[/spoiler]

I thought there was an instituted 3 second period after a checkpoint where if death continually happened the game reverted to a previous one?  Or was that 2?

Option 1: Overlevel. More health + more magic res = capable of surviving Ultima!

Option 2: Reraise, or whatever it's called that time around. I'm pretty sure there's also a Jump skill available... somehow, and that'd dodge Ultima happily.

Option 3, for nut-jobs: There's one weapon in the game that drains mana on hit. Equip it to someone, then Berserk them, and they can (and will) attack in the tower. Equip a second ally with the weapon that heals when you attack, and Berserk them as well (so the first guy doesn't kill the boss by accident). Reflect everyone, so they're immune to the boss. Leave the game on overnight, letting Berserk automatically attack, and you'll return to find the boss at 0 mana (he has ~50,000, so draining it via Rasp isn't really viable  :P ). Then kill him. He can't cast Ultima with no MP.

I'm posting this mainly because I find option 3 absolutely hilarious, and because some people (low-level runners in particular) actually use it:o

Problem with option two is that you cannot Jump, since you can only use Magic and Item commands.

Option three actually sounds viable, especially since I have that sword. The problem with Reflecting everyone is that it disappears after reflecting so many spells. I could just do it anyway, and have everyone else use Rasper.

...I wonder if I can't use a Genji Glove to give somebody both the Soul Saber and a Healing Rod, and if the high attack value of the Healing Rod will increase the MP damage from the Soul Saber. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone in my party can wield both.

Asphyxiated myself by forgetting to put on a piece of my spacesuit.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also, Asphyxiated my entire crew since they couldn't repair the air replicators in time. Bonus? I had to vent the ship atmosphere to kill boarders via asphyxiation in one block and in two others to put out a large fire. There was no-one that could get to the rebreathers in time to repair them before dying to either oxygen deprivation or fire.

The problem with Reflecting everyone is that it disappears after reflecting so many spells.

Reflect Rings are an option, since they'll never wear off.

Also, I have no clue how you're supposed to climb Kefka's Tower without savestates, grinding or cheesing it. The Boss has that bullshit invincibility field thing, and the top-level mobs ganked my party 9 times out of ten. Mind you I think the game kinda assumes that everybody is wearing reflect rings at that point., which would half the damage taken and make things a lot easier.

Quite cheaply you could also Vanish-Doom it. It's horribly cheaty to do so, but that boss practically requires it. When you cast vanish, for some reason it removes immunity to death spells.

Got zerg rushed by the drones of the rebel flagship's second phase and we kersploded. O Kapin my Kapin's three shields, high dodge rate, and dual burst lazers couldn't stand up to the onslaught.

In retrospect I should've saved the cloak for the rebel ship's power surge to buy me more time to destroy their drone control bay.

I get a quest for a level 17 raid. It recommends that I bring along at least five other people, but I say "Nuts to that! I'm level 18 and I've been soloing every quest so far - on hard mode! Let's do this!"

All goes well until I get to the boss, which one-shots me.

Didn't they fix this in the GBA rerelease? Unless you were playing the original version, in which case, yes, it works.  :P
(I forgot that Jump was disabled, but Reraise(?) should work if you've learned it.)

The tower can be completed pretty safely with Reflect rings. Bounce spells off yourself, and they negate the other guy's Reflect - remember to heal in between fights, though, since you can't reliably heal during combat. Or spam Ultima, which is freakishly OP and lets you curbstomp every challenge in the game. Non-elemental damage (also murders the boss!), goes right through reflect, deals 9999 damage to everything if you've got decent magic. Alternately, cast Berserk on yourself and laugh evilly as you use physical attacks to kill everything in the 'no physical attacks' tower. :D

Also, my own death: Hunting for enemy mortars, I rolled my tank a little too far into enemy territory. An enemy tank wave slipped past me, and the handful of howitzers back at base were unable to stop them before they charged into my toybox. Serves me right for not paying attention.
