Knights are really good though.  Top STR (12) for medieval age, can smoke anything before riflemen, and as 2 movement horses are naturally attack oriented.

Machine guns are 20str, and get absurd city and hill def bonuses.  Machine guns are really supposed to be so threatening you rush to air support or marines.

Cetana bugged out again in Stellaris.  That makes literally 2/3rds of the times I've encountered her a disaster that was unwinnable due to bugs.

After she establishes outposts in your territory, a bunch of dig sites are supposed to show up and you're supposed to get events telling you to destroy convoys and outposts to get intel on her and delay her progress to the instant game over.  You get damage bonuses against her for completing some of these, which is almost necessary because her ships have insane stats and insane regen.  They're supposed to be almost unbeatable without those bonuses.

So...  I didn't get the bonuses, and found that yes indeed 1 million fleet power was not enough to beat her 8 million.  The AI didn't help at all.  They usually don't help much anyway, but the last expansion made the AI much worse since the cosmic storms lead to many of them collapsing from stability problems.  I've never seen so many rebellions.

I don't think the devs have fixed any bugs related to her since she was introduced.  It's a gamble if you plan to play to the crises like I do, since it's a coin flip if you'll just hit the bugs and be screwed.  I made a backup save early into the crisis for just this occasion, but it was after those events were supposed to trigger so it was already too late.  I'm going to have to stop playing on ironman, I guess.  Corrupted the save trying to turn it off so I could bypass her with console commands.

Getting my ass kicked on mission Alpha 8. Had to look it up, as it turns out I wasn't the only one.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

EDIT: Alpha 12 managed to grind me down to nothing. Every inch is heavily fortified, every push costly. After about an hour, I ran out of reserves and resources to build them. Doesn't really help that enemy tanks are somehow tougher than mine, despite New Paradigm bodies supposedly being less tanky than Project ones.

I don't mind great conquerors.

I *do* mind great conquerors spawning right next to me at the very beginning of the game with a massive fuck off army.

Managed to soft-lock myself trying to figure out how to grab a treasure chest. It required to a particularly stupid set of decisions to cause that soft-lock, but I did.

My first death in the game also happened right before that.

I have, yet again, done something to piss off the game. I don't know what.

Every time a minor inconvenience can happen, it will. There's been near non-stop raids. My pawns and pets are both doing everything in their power to provoke bad situations, such as charging head-first at shamblers to get access to haul stuff when hauling is on the bottom end of their priority list and they have so, *so* much more stuff to be doing that's above it. Food poisoning is rampant because I've got "incompetent" chefs (I don't, somehow the 0.5% chance is closer to a 10% chance). Latest, my guy chose to shoot at the furthest shambler from him, getting its attention. When that volley failed to kill the shambler, he switched to another shambler, just to make sure he couldn't kill them both one-by-one.

I swear somewhere in the myriad mods an emergent AI has appeared, and it has some morality I can't parse and something I do just occasionally makes it upset so it does what it can to frustrate me.

Havel the Rock did a ground smash, with me in it's contact area.

...Despite the fact that his club hit air as I was diving off some stairs to bait him into falling.

If you know how he works, you can just backstab him until he's dead and never get hit, which is why experienced players go for him early. His ring is really overpowered. But yeah, if he hits you then you die.

Not a death, but The Ghoul DLC is certainly grindy as all heck. I need to get the top level of Secret History lore, which requires (well… is easiest by) getting the second top Secret History lore from the Peacock Door, at least twice to research it up to the top, assuming I get the location I need first time (I didn’t).

The Peacock Door itself requires you to use a mirror, which breaks every time you do this and requires a relatively uncommon thing to repair it that requires talking to patrons in the hope they give you a commission that requires at least level 4 lore in whatever they’re looking for, which then requires you to do work on it and then talk to the patron again to get the payment.

I’m pretty sure I need one last thing to finish the McGuffin, but goddamn it is a slog, and while I am reasonably sure this is the way to get it, I will be stupendously unhappy if it turns out to be a dead end.
