I'm guessing Final Fantasy Tactics, specifically the PSP version.

I was thinking about a Final Fantasy game, but the splitting of the party seems to suggest it's really not. :/ Does FFT have an inside and outside?

There are a few locations where you could consider an inside and an outside co-existed.


Yeah, it was Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions. There's one mission where the main character (originally named Strife in my game) goes inside the castle while the rest of the group is outside waiting for him to open the gate. Then they all get ambushed.

Met a large group of orcs, kited them back to a narrow area to kill them. Another group of orcs noticed the first lot shouting, and came at me from behind. I go beserk and wipe out most of them, but I'm still trapped at the end, and for some stupid reason I was wielding a staff of chaos. Now slowed down by my exertions, I am repeatedly attacked by the orc that I managed to turn into a giant centipede, and a group of his friends. I kill his friends, using all my healing potions in the process, and attempt to run away from him. He catches me and kills me. Bastard!

If that's the mission I think it is, the main character wasn't indoors, it was just inside the gate. Just boost speed until you can curbstomp the bad guy in the gates, then open the gates and kill everyone else outside.
