I was trying to grind my Strike Gundam for Aile Strike Gundam, some douche comes out of nowhere and uses Red Frame's special, then beam rifle's me to death.

DoomRL spawned me in one of those wide-open cavern levels with no cover.  Cacodemons.  They'd only just started showing up in the normal levels, I think.

Surrounded, didn't have enough dakka, armor or health.

Goddamn, how am I supposed to deal with those levels?

Easy.  Run, and strafe your way to even a little bit of cover or to the stairs, instead of shooting.    Cacos aren't too bad when it comes to strafing.

...Okay not /easy/, but that is at least a way of dealing with it.

Fell knight was taking on my main character (who was equipped as a bare fisted ninja) while my two ninja monks, mage, and summoner fought outside. The Fell knight kicked my ass, while an enemy normal knight zapped my mage's mp so she couldn't use nuke.
