This actually happened before my previous death:

Moving through to take a series of villages from the enemy. On the last one, I've died several times already. Final time, we're already getting worn thin and I'm slightly wounded, so grab a missile launcher and fire at a group of entrenched enemies, then toss a grenade before shooting down the rest. My squad finally catches up to me, and we enter the perimeter of the village. My fireteam leader calls out "All clear", so I take a few steps forward, only to be cut in half by a machinegunner set up behind a doorway.

So, I'm not really good at games that require fast reaction times, not because my reaction time is bad, but because my fingers don't always follow the commands my brain sends to them due to nerve damage.

Obviously this is a huge disadvantage when the game I am trying to play decides to change things up a bit, and give me a mission with two; large, hard-hitting, heavily armored, fast moving targets, with opposing elemental weaknesses, in this case a fallen quadriga, and a sekhmet deusphage.  I initially managed to separate the two, and badly weakened the quadriga.  So of course it had to go running off, right into the sekhmet, and so a desperate battle ensued to bring down the quadriga before my party got wiped.  I barely managed to drop the qudriga as the sekhmet activates for the first time, and proceeds to roflstomp my party, we respawn, and move to engage the sekhmet, at this point I have all of three healing pills, and all of my teammates are out.

Needless to say, we bought it.  Hard.

I was wondering the northern area of Eldin Volcano when I came across a big dude that was kind of a cross between a centaur and utter madness. I went up to him swinging my sword, and he's all like "You're fucked, brah."

Needless to say, I got an axe shoved up my ass as punishment.

I challenged a very strong demon to a fight, despite being quite underlevelled and underequipped, and fought him for 5 straight minutes.
This was not a boss, just one stronger enemy I could technically run past, but I wanted to fight.

We trade blows for a while, but I bring him down to 1/10th HP. I have only one healing item left.

The demon hits me, leaving me at 7 HP. Luckilly I still have one...
The attack makes me fall down a cliff and die. I fell maybe 5 feet, but that was enough.

Although I've made progress in Scarlet Devil and can get all the way up to and past Patchouli about half the time, I'm getting tilted with my lack of progress since then. It feels like perhaps what I need is a break to let it "sink in," since I remember several occasions where I took a break from a game I was really mad at and then beat it effortlessly next time.

I tried Subterranean Animism because the final boss has an arm cannon and it takes place in Hell.

Parsee (stage 2 boss) is possibly worse than Hitler.

Thought I'd finally give this a whirl. Made it to the final sector, but despite the general ease at which I made it there, I found it nearly impossible to hit the Rebel ships with any of my weapons. After pulling back a jump to repair, I run right into the Rebel fleet. Even though I kill the entire crew of the ship I'm fighting with one missile, they still have two boarders on my ship who, along with the fleet's guns cheesing my ship, kill my entire crew.

Built a wonderful dragon shaped ship full of happiness and joy  Everything I need for manufacturing and an airtight interior.  Figured I'd land on the planet that has ended so many starts before I learned trying to land on a planet in the respawn ship was a terrible idea and went to mine asteroids.

I doubled the number of downward thrusters by peppering the wings with them and added an admittedly unfortunately placed back exit (it's the only place I could fit a ground level airlock without having to redesign everything! Honest!) so I'd be able to walk back into the ship once landed.

Sadly I learned quite quickly that ion thrusters for space, do not work very well for keeping a large ship with big fake wings from hitting the ground at terminal velocity in atmosphere.

Used my last bit of soul to snipe an annoying mosquito instead of healing myself up from a single mask. I then proceeded to fumble my next jump and fall into the acid.

Got all the DLC for XCOM, since I figured I was finally going to make an earnest attempt to beat the entire campaign.

I had a rough start, some rookies got roughed up and progress is slow but nothing goes terribly awry. Then a Council mission begins with a cutscene, and I figure I'm into the expansion content. Escort the civilian, there's some Thin Men and Sectoids lurking about. Nothing I can't handle.

Then a Chryssalid plops himself right in front of the evac area. I have a single nano-fiber vest and default weapons.

What's that? No, I haven't saved since starting this campaign, why do you ask?

Multiple times due to multiple infractions, including:

  • Not getting the hell out of the way of an explosive (on several occasions, though at least one of them occurred when I had been knocked down)
  • Trying to take on too many Biters at once, and getting, well, bitten.
  • Trying to take on too many Virals at once, and getting punched and kicked to death by zombies that acted like breakdancers when they weren't begging for mercy when they weren't whaling on me mercilessly.
  • Jumping from high heights and not having anything safe to land on.
  • Melee attacking Bombers after mistaking them for Toads.
  • Attempting to use a medkit in the heat of combat rather than in a safe spot before a fight began.
  • Immediately going "Ooh, Bolter!" rather than doing the smart thing and luring away the Volitailes first.
  • Trying to fight the Volitailes.
  • Trying to run from the Volitailes.
  • Anything involving Volitailes.

I haven't actually gotten anything that can one-shot a Biter that isn't a ranged weapon or a melee technique. Is that normal for Survivor level 12?

Well there is the heavy rebar that the giant zombies drop, but otherwise I'm not sure. My question is this, have you been reliably getting bladed weapons yet (axes, machetes, swords etc.). Those should one shot if you hit the head, but if those haven't started dropping yet, then it's unlikely that you'll find a bludgeon that one shots.

I have a red axe that inflicts a little over 140 damage per hit. Does that count?

Of course, I also have the Korek Machete.

I wasn't oneshotting the basic zombies until... I wanna say 75% through the game? It's been about a year since I played it, but I remember having a fire/electric sword (pretty sure it's named after an angel, maybe Gabriel) that would at most two-shot the average zombie.

As for most recent death, one of my Daily Objectives in GTA Online was to play a Normal Deathmatch. After about an hour I finally managed to get a game going against a Russian, and it was pretty cool. We were both sneaking around the shipping crates and trying to stealth kill each other; he outplayed me 6 kills to 4 but at least I got my 3k RP and $25k. ^^^

Is GTA Online really that dead?

Or is it just Deathmatch that's dead?

In my experience, it seems like people are playing; I think people are mainly doing the CEO and MC missions which you do during Freeroam. As for other things, Heists generally get a team within five minutes if people don't get ADHD and leave the lobby seconds after joining, and races can fill up fairly quickly, but I think people would rather just shoot each other in Freeroam or do custom Deathmatches which didn't count for the Daily Objective (I did one fairly fun one where the only weapon was grenades and the two teams were separated from each other by a fence on a platform high in the sky). I generally stay out of deathmatch because I'm not a PvPer by nature but I REALLY wanted that 25k to afford a Stilt Apartment before the sale ended. :P

Honestly part of it might be the fact that I play during the night because I work night shift so I'm generally not awake during the day. EDIT: That's probably exactly it because I generally end up playing with Russian, German, and Chinese players; my 4 AM is like their noon to 4 PM depending on exact location.
