Definitely. The lowest possible chance for that spell is generally enough for any store lock(if not, recast). Lockipicking is garbage.

I ordered my Assault forward to take care of a Floater, on what looked like the very edge of the map (it was a rooftop one). Not only did he miss with a 74% chance to hit, he uncovered three Mutons. The first Mutons in this save game, and three of them just happened to be standing right next to eachother on the very corner of the map.

Mutons, being fucking OP bullshit as ever, proceeded to completely obliterate my Assault and gravely wound the Sniper. If I had a save game from a few turns ago, I would have savescummed that.

Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup

Decided to mess around with someone's custom map.  A recreation of the world at massively reduced scale. I want to set up a base at my actual home,florida so I choose eastern US as spawn point, even though it warns it's hard.

• Spawn practically on top of a sabertooth tiger somewhere in Louisiana I think.  Die.
• Spawn somewhere just east of louisiana.  same sabertooth sees me almost immediately and swims what I can only assume is supposed to be the missisippi river in 2 seconds.  Die.
• Spawn in north florida.  Still in sight of that damn saber.   But run away.  Run into and get eated by ANOTHER saber somewhere in the vicinity of orlando.
• Spawned someplace on the US east coast. probably somewhere around Virginia but can't be sure. For once no sabers in sight.  Get eated by a dire wolf immediately after making a stone pickaxe.

Step 2: Get a tank.
Step 3: Laugh maniacally as you blow them to pieces.

Alternatively, get a MAX or find a different door to exit through or sneak out with an infiltrator or just fight elsewhere.

Generally speaking, once you're getting spawncamped like that, you've lost that base and both sides are just waiting for it to flip. Best just bugger off, maybe organize a counterattack.

Thanks for the advice, DarkStar and Akura. While I WAS trying to stay behind cover and be smart, it was probably a pretty dumb idea to try and escape a base being heavily assaulted in the first place.

First naval map in campaign mode. After {recovering Col. Arnold's black box,} you're supposed to assault an enemy naval base.

...Only said base is guarded by multiple higher-tier fleets and sends very large waves of such ships every few minutes, far faster than I could build them. My stopgap defense of cruise missile tanks barely held them off for long.

Now that I'm older and actually playing the game intelligently, I think this game must have been designed for exploits. All the semi-cheaty stuff, like safespotting with magic/ranged and doing specific quests to instantly take a skill from 0 to 30+, must be intentional. Because I have no idea how I ever played the game other than this.
