Was mashing Alt-2 to prep my torpedo ability, not understanding why it wasn't working. After I died, I looked at my hands and realized that I had been mashing function-3. I don't understand how my hands got so far away from their usual place, but I died all the same.

Star Trek Online. It's nice to have time to play an MMO again.

I don't know what function 3 does in the game but I imagine the captain in the bridge yelling "Fire the medbays!  Fire all the medbays!" While the token vulcan looks at them with an eyebrow raised.

Attacking a base, there are at least 80 people from each faction here. Air power is prevalent in this fight, so there are a few AA Max Suits around. I am one of them.
One or two ESFs at a time, no problem, raking in the certs.
Run out of ammo.
Everyone else is out of ammo.
They start pushing hard with Liberators and ESFs.
There are three engineers, all sitting on turrets, not throwing out ammo or repairing Maxes at all.
Everyone died.

Man I haven't played that (PC) in forever. What are the current faction standings?

To be honest, the kids can barely survive step 1 of Project Traumatise-Children, let alone the "Skinny dipping in magma" Phase of the plan.

We need to perfect the main part of the childcare program before we start going all crazy.

Finally got that damn gryphon to fight me in Dragon's Dogma. Unfortunately, it was in the middle of an escort mission, and of course Barnaby is a wimpy little twerp. The moment the gryphon landed, he was killed, quest failed. I then spent half an hour trying to kill the damn thing. Which got me halfway through its first of four life bars. Then, on one of its "fly in a loop and dive in for a skidding stop to wipe the entire party at once" moves, it flew too far away, landed in the woods off in the distance, and lost aggro. Distracted by a saurian or something... Then it flew back overhead before vanishing in the distance.

God. DAMN it.

I just rage quit and reverted to the last checkpoint, which was right before accepting that quest.

Not rolling with an outfit is the first and last mistake anyone makes. Once you have a half decent leader who barks orders, people actually do shit.

fn-3 doesn't even do anything at all, in any game. The function key is for keyboard shortcuts to raise the brightness and turn on airplane mode, stuff like that.

Some games do use the function keys. I've played games where F5 and F8/9 were quick save and quick load, and in StarCraft II, the function keys are used to quickly select hero units.

Mount & Blade uses them for command menus.

Nono, not function as in F1, F2 etc. A dedicated "Fn" key on laptops that does things like let you use the keypad keys, which will be alternate keys over on the right side somewhere. Also to do brightness and stuff.

My keyboard actually has a full numpad, which is very nice. I mostly use the Fn key to turn off the keyboard backlight when the angle makes it reflect in the screen.

Rolled a 2 when casting Greater Teleport via scroll, landed in a continent of negative energy.  Tried to cast death ward, didn't roll a natural 20 on the concentration check.

Yeah, I've got something like that too. No keyboard backlight, but a numpad and Fn key combo.
Spoiler: My Fn keys (click to show/hide)
So my keboard at least doesn't have a Fn+3 effect. However, my keyboard is evidently different than itisnotlogical because my Fn key is LEFT of my Alt key, and his would need to be on the RIGht for his story.
