Graphical Bug
« on: June 11, 2008, 02:35:00 am »

I'm having some graphics issues. I've recently switched computers, so I re-downloaded DF and booted it up in windowed mode. The right third or so of the screen was cut off, as it was on my old computer so I switched to full screen mode and now the very leftmost part of the screen is cut off, while there's an inch or two of black space on the right side. Anyone had a similar problem or know of a fix?

For reference, I'm playing with an unmodified init file, my resolution is set to 1024x768 and everything else on my computer displays properly, so it's not that I have my monitor improperly configured.

Was this the version downloaded off the site, or from somewhere else?  Does Kobold Quest have the same trouble?

I downloaded it off one of the graphic pack sites (specifically this one: http://mayday.w.staszic.waw.pl/df.htm),  but I have the exact same version on my other computer and it works fine.

In windowed mode, the right portion of the screen is cut off because the game window is larger than your 1024x768 desktop size. To fix this, edit the file INIT.TXT and find the following line:
[GRAPHICS_WINDOWEDX:1280]
And change it to:
[GRAPHICS_WINDOWEDX:1024]

In fullscreen mode, it seems that your monitor lacks a preset for the required mode. One easy fix for this is to "auto adjust" the monitor. There is often a button on the monitor that does this, but if not you may need to consult your monitor's documentation. Failing this, you can again edit INIT.TXT. Find the lines:
[GRAPHICS_FULLSCREENX:1280]
[GRAPHICS_FULLSCREENY:800]
And change them to:
[GRAPHICS_FULLSCREENX:1024]
[GRAPHICS_FULLSCREENY:768]

You can find INIT.TXT in the /DATA/INIT/ folder.

That fixed it.  I'd tried messing with the ones that just say WINDOWED and FULLSCREEN to no avail.

Thank you very much for your help   :)

It's the monitor setting for sure.
I had the same problem with a labtop AND PC with an old(defunct) screen,
I replaced the screen (wow colours!) and now it works fine.
The labtop required some tweaking of the dimensions.
