Conquer the Kingdom Turn 8 submit order by DEC 16
« on: November 12, 2010, 09:27:31 pm »

The King is Dead
Normally, this wouldn't be a problem. However, the old king did not sire an heir and much of the nobility has died from the plague. The end result is that the matter of succession is somewhat... confused to say the least. Many noble houses have been reduced to a single county, and in many parts opportunistic bandits have become claiming cities and fortresses as their own. The kingdom's enemies leap at this opportunity to install a puppet king, and send in troops and those with the barest hint of royal blood to stake their claim to the throne.

In short, it is a time of great strife and great opportunity. so step up, state your claim, and try to win the throne!

So, yeah. I've decided to start up a forum game. setting is a medieval/dark ages kingdom in the middle of a succession crisis. You play the role of someone who wishes to claim the throne. To enroll, post in the following format.

In.

Name: Merchant Republic of Aelport
County: Aelport
Map color: Navy blue
Backstory (optional, but encouraged): With the recent loss of the monarch, several small noble houses in Aelport have decided to work together to outmatch their larger rivals elsewhere, rather then waste their energies fighting each other. They decided that it would be best for one to lead them, and, after several weeks of deliberation, voted Nirur, from the noble house of Turtles, to lead them to greatness. He has the full support of the other noble houses for now, but his body guards are largely hired by the other noble houses - If they feel that he begins acting outside of their interests, they will likely replace him.
He believes that wealth is the key to power, and wishes to amass as much as possible, to allow him to retire as an extremely wealthy individual after he is voted out.

I'll join as well.

Name: The Harlequin Republic
County: Marsh Haven
Map color: Maroon
Backstory: An order of assassins established by peasants to eliminate the out of control nobles, and tyrants has now risen to reclaim the motherland. They disguise themselves as street performers, and jesters to get near their targets, hence the name "Harlequin."

Name: Shadows of Redmoor
County: Redmoor
Map color: Brown
Backstory (optional, but encouraged): Before the kings death the lords of Redmoor had kept their lands safe and only argued amounst eachother rarely when ever one made a promise they never kept or something trivial at that, but when the King's power had fallen, leaving them all seperated from their old allies they banded together to form the Shadows or Redmoor, a Council that was both the guiding shield of the country and its hidden sword and dagger, they excel at three things, First they have the most deadliest Snipers in the world, known to hit their mark cleanly from more then 50 yards away, multiple times in most cases. Second their leaders consist of some of the most silver tongued individuals, who had reached their positions of power through some of the most underhanded methods known to man, but thats not what the rest of the world knows, and finally they seem to be everywhere, they have their eyes and ears in nearly every castle, city and village. Able to discover nearly anything about anyone quite well...

Name: Dukedom of Estcliff
County: Estcliff
Map color: Grey
Backstory (optional, but encouraged): Led by Alwin, the grandnephew of the recently deceased king and thus probably the last person still alive with a clear, direct claim on the throne. Alwin, an only child, had only just received the title when the king died, his father having fallen in battle a week before. He is trying to take the throne solely to prevent a bad ruler taking over, though the knowledge that whoever takes over will need to kill him is also a factor. He'd much rather he'd been left alone to finish his studies and wishes he wasn't at all related to the king.

Name:  The Ghostfang Brotherhood
County:  Fayden
Map color:  Orange
Background:  The Ghostfang Brotherhood is a collection of like-minded Warrior-Knights.  They, when the king was in power, represented a large portion of the military.  Now with the fragmentation of the lands, the Ghosfang's membership has declined, but their leader, the enigmatic Norrec, seeks to reunite the country, this time under his rule.

Name: The Commonwealth of Vertston
County: Vertston County
Map color: Teal!
Backstory (optional, but encouraged): Founded on the premise of promoting the common good, the Commonwealth of Vertston is led by Protectorate Billman, who was a general in the late king's army. As a reward for service, he was given the title of Count of Vertston. After the death of the king, he declared a transition of his state from the then-called County of Vertston to the now-called Commonwealth of Vertston.

Quick question; will government type affect anything?
Also, can we choose to change our government type randomly through the game? For example, changing from a county to a duchy, or a duchy to a kingdom/empire/whatever...

Name: The Fairhollow Council
County: Fairhollow
Map color: purple
Backstory (optional, but encouraged): The Fairhollow council was established in hopes of restoring peace to Fairhollow, which it did, though taking many years. the leader of the council, Sir Walter Hehmingshire, is the current nobleman of the land. his family had a strong relation with the king and his now mostly deceased family, which is how he earned such a position.

The first player to join took Aelport. Other than that, it's fine, although assuming I get in the king's family is only mostly dead.

Name: Men of Chaos
County: Fogdell
Map color: Red
Backstory (optional, but encouraged): While many wish to raise the kingdom back to it's old state, the Men of Chaos care not for the old king's rule. They wish to bring a new order, one of base pleasure and true freedom, where the strong willed hold power rather than those privileged by birth. They don't care who they will kill to gain the throne, only that the status quo is not restored.

You may be right, perhaps another island to the south west with more counties to claim?

Just a suggestion: make grids for the water, so that we don't end up with light speed ships.
