Disappearing game window
« on: June 10, 2008, 07:10:00 pm »

I've noticed several times when I've been playing recently that the taskbar icon for dwarf fortress will sometimes disappear, and then reappear when I refocus on the DF window. But today, it was disappeared and I was silly enough to minimize the window. Apparently this killed the process entirely, as I no longer have dwarfort.exe running. Reopening the program and loading the save I was playing puts me back where I started before the session which the bug occurred in.

EDIT: Apparently it was still running, I just had no way of accessing it. I had to kill the process manually to make it go away.

I haven't heard of that one before, but I have no idea why it would happen.

This happens to me too sometimes, but I found out that Alt-Tab makes the program re-emerge, so it doesn't bother me, but it's still weird.

Ah, wish I'd thought of that. That probably would have done the trick.

Not sure if it makes a difference, but I recently got a new computer which is running Windows XP media center edition. The old one was running vanilla windows XP, and I never noticed this problem with it. There are quite a few other differences though, so nailing it down would be rather difficult.
