The Harsh World of Martial Arts

TOTAL BS....I had a highly successful human adventurer who had finally acquired full armor and steel weaponry. I had 20 notable kills at the time and I was so far invincible to all who opposed me (my weak companions constantly fell...but were replaced easily enough). On my way to get some quests from a village I was ambushed by goblins....this was of course something I smirked at. After slaying 2 goblins and taking an arrow to the arm (not an injury I would normally worry about) I was about to charge the archer who shot me when I was sucker punched by a goblin wrestler and had my skull launched through my brains...wtf...I didn't feel very invincible after that.

At least it was good FUN! gotta love the randomness of combat!

Anyone created a full time martial artist (kicking, striking, and wrestling)yet with any success?

Ah, yes, the punching, kicking and striking seems to be EXTREMELY overpowered in 31.17.
I mean, I can go around killing people with my bare hands by just punching them in the heads.
Toady will fix that in 31.18 :P

In other news, thrown items are still ridiculous. I just killed a goblin by throwing water at him.

No, it was a lasher.

I just killed his friend by beating him to death with the lasher's vomit.

I haven't been able to get any vomit this release. Not any I can pick up, at any rate.
Swans, too. Swans are complete bastards.

Hehe this combat system is brutal.

And yes, punching the skull in does seem to be rather too easy.  The first time a Nightcreature did that to me, I was just so excited that someone beat my brains in with bare hands, but after repeated deaths at the hands of fist happy creatures when repeated flailings only bruise groundhogs, I agree with the imbalance claim.

But still brutal, and very cool.  There is something incredibly satisfying about choosing your attacks in such detail.  When the enemy is unconscious, and you have a free choice about where to stick the knife in... well... ahem.

Dude I, as a demi-god human pikeman showed up with an armored spear man, hammer man and hunter to the wife of some evil something's cave.

I'd killed night creatures solo on this toon so I figured it would be fine.

Early in the fight I even STABBED HER IN THE HEAD, DAMAGING THE SPINE and she still methodically beat everyone in my group to death with a hat =<

I had a legendary hero martial artist. Killed a troublesome group of dwarven bandits with face kicks.

If a lucky strike to his foot hadn't cut his 1700 speed to 500, he would've survived that dwarven bandit revenge ambush.

Sucks because I was on my to kill a hill Titan.

Does the fact that you wear metal gauntlets/boots make the unarmed attacks extra nastier, or are they just glitched regardless?

Do not forget about razor sharp nails. I've caused a deadly bleeding by scratching some bogeymen. And they've died from a blood loss despite the fact I was striking them with the hammer like frenzied smith afterwards.
