Boogy men are Boogyshit =<
« on: November 11, 2010, 11:08:10 pm »

Dude I'm a demigod and I can't even hurt them.  I try to run away and there's always more of them.  I'm a few feet away from a town and there's a river in the way =(

Eventually they punch you to death.... sigh...

Save youself by finding a cougar or other large beastie. Run near it so that it encounters your personal bogeymen.
Tadaa! You now have something that will stay behind and distract the bogeymen while you make a break for it!

I ran into alligators and the boggymen ingnored them.  The one or both of them punched me in the heart.

Cougar saved me. Maybe I just lucked out, then.

In my only encounter with bogeymen, I slaughtered them mercilessly, and they didn't put up much of a fight.  Of course, I was an accomplished swordsman so that might have had something to do with it.

Solution:  STOP TRAVELING AT NIGHT!  That is all.

That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.

Was sleeping inside a fortress and they got me. Ran close to one of the fighters, and he didn't even wake up. They didn't bother with him after I died, either - waited for a fair amount of time to make sure. They're pretty annoying, IMO - could be made a lot more rare, instead of every damn time you sleep out in the open. It makes me question how the bandit camps are surviving them when they can slip past a heavily guarded fortress and through two doors.

Currently, my adventurer is running from a shit ton of them with a "mortal wound" to the heart.
I can not fast travel, and there is a boogyman pretty much everywhere i run, though i am managing to out evade the shit out of them.
I am stuck in the middle of nowhere with no town close by, and it seems i am going to have to keep running till daylight breaks... or i die...

I just finished a mad cross-country dash across a region to the nearest town because I spent way too much time looting a night creature's lair.

Stumbled into town with the bogeymen hot on my heels just as dawn broke.  My opinion on them is neutral as of yet, though they've added far more excitement to my travels so far than wolves ever have.

Even though they are hard to kill they are incredibly easy to knock down even using the skills you gain starting as a peasant, so if they gain on you too much as you run you can just knock them all down before taking off with some extra space between you.

the bogeymen vanish and reappear near you. (just in visible range, or just out of it)
It literally says "the bogeyman has vanished". You need pretty good stealth to run the gauntlet between them, too. They have must have some Observation skill.

I just slaughtered a herd of them. The trick seems to be to aim for the head and body regardless of what the combat menu says, since they don't seem to be very good at dodging.

On the other hand, I was an axedwarf in a martial trance, so maybe a human wouldn't have been able to hit them as easily.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Is it even possible to encounter Bogeymen if you have at least one companion?

yeah you can, but the chance is very low (sleeping alone in a town seems instead an almost 100% chance of bogeyman coming at you)

they don't vanish in town. I've not tested if they vanish if you reach a house at night.

I just did it. They do. The moment you go inside, "the cackling fades away".
