Merchant Prince bug

I've had this issue with my most recent fort where the negotiating traders that usually accompany the dwarves and humans have stopped coming with the traders.  I think they may have been killed at some point during an ambush...

So are they gone for good?  Wouldn't it be a bug if they were never replaced by their respective civilizations?  Thanks for looking into this, its quite difficult late game when you can't ask for specific goods anymore :/

I think once they are killed they are gone for good, my dwarf liaison got killed once and didn't get replaced for the next 10 years or so I played the fort anyway.

I've even heard that if you start a new fort, that same civ won't send a liaison to that one either. I don't know if that's true or not, but I do know that I got the same liaison in different forts so it's possible.

Yes it does kind of suck, especially if you were replying on the humans to import wood to make coal to smith on a treeless desert with. oh well.

Traders come back when killed (well, new ones) unless it happens a lot.  The liason is a leader-type dwarf and can't be replaced.

Wow that is quite the killjoy.  Any way to memory hack them back in?  My fort is very old and I was having a blast with it until this happened...

Well I used DF Companion and found the Liason and Merchant Prince in the dead list.  Then I unchecked their deadness and healed them up...  they went to meet with my baron but ended up leaving unhapppy.  Does anyone think this might work without totally messing up my game later on?

It's not that it's a bug, it's more of a missing feature. A trade liaison is an elected official, but sites that aren't yours don't have any form of election process yet. The job spot for liaison stays open for all of eternity.
