I'd imagine such a squad would be a doozy to manage. Not to mention a killer for FPS. Seriously, 1337 peasants? You've had a significant part of the world's civilized population under your command, and you "lost" them?

So yeah, anyone know where you can get some armor?  Yeah, there's armor in warrens and lairs, occasionally.  But that entails getting defeating a night creature, which can be a sticky problem.  And even then, you're lucky to get a helm or a pair of boots.  I really need some body armor.  It's all bronze of course, because humans are primitive Greco-Roman dorks, but whatever works.

Err, shops? They're the yellow tiles in the larger towns on the travel map.

I usually loot a cave before killing the creature in it. Stealth. It works.
They may shout out challenges and pace back and forth, but so long as you don't stand right next to them for more than a step, you should be ok.

Then I sell the crap I looted for real armor at a shop.

Manged to find myself some toad paste from a mortar and pestle in a lair, promptly drank it of course!

You can butcher wild animals and sell the parts for equipment. If you're human, anyway.
Dwarves, goblins and elves all use the same size armor, so you can go around gobboville if you're in need of a breastplate and helmet - the rest can be found in Night-Creature lairs near dwarven civs.

Also many camps have chests with really nice armor in them. Just sneak past bandits and loot it.

Actually it washed out the taste of human brains quite nicely
