Wagons?
« on: November 10, 2010, 11:26:30 pm »

My Depot has access and [D]epot access shows green from the edge of the map to the depot in multiple spots. But for two years now neither the humans nor the dwarves have brought wagons with them and have been showing up with pathetic amounts of stuff despite me making trades for 100 to 200 thousand in exchange for 5 to 10 thousand multiple years in a row. I also request massive amounts of stuff from the liaisons setting the sliders all the way to the right. Early on in my fortress I accidentally left my gate closed blocking the Depot from wagon access (but not individuals) I did not get the message saying that they bypassed my site. IIRC this fortress has never had a wagon arrive... What gives?

No wagons since version .12 at least, cos that's when I started playing and I haven't yet experienced one.

If you are really desperate about amount of stuff caravans bring, you can try to make mules/horses able to carry more stuff in raws.
After that only thing left is to wait for wagons to be back.

Cheers,
G.

Thanks Gralcio, that's a good idea. My problem is that this map doesn't have flux on it :( I'm producing 20k+ roasts (worth more than raw adamantium and they grow out of the dirt. LOL!) so it's kind of disappointing for the caravans to be nerf'd (unintentionally I hope).

Toady plans to bring wagons back when he does the eventual rework for multi-tile entities in general. Patience, my young padawan.

In a related question...

I very recently discovered the d-b option, to avoid 'f' spamming after sieges.

If there a similar function to buy a lot of stuff without having to press enter like 200 times ???

You can record a macro of alternating down arrow and enter enough times to mark one page. This won't buy bins but only the goods inside but it should still be handy for buying multiple pages of wood. ctrl-r to record and play macros, but read the wiki on it as i don't use them much and can't help you with details.

Actually, the pack animals have the exact same "capacity" values as they did in 40d - Toady didn't reduce them when he changed the weight scale.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Can they be reinserted into the game by fiddling with the raws or modding or something?
