God dammit why does everyone hate so.
This is why the First Commandment is, in practice, "Thou shalt not kill unless thou art killing cultural or geographical foreigners".

<derail>
I had no idea you can turn "I am your god" into "Do not kill."

Apparently there are different versions of the list, and most times I've seen it, that's the first.  I know that sometimes it starts with that one but still, the not killing thing still appears in that list.  In any case, not the point of my comment, but I stand corrected.

Diso Faintpuzzles was born in 120.  Although accounts vary it is universally agreed that Diso was chosen by fate as the vanguard of destiny.

In the early spring of 143 Diso began wandering the wilds.

In the early spring of 143 Diso starved to death in the Horn of Striking.

Spoiler: Researching what you discuss before discussing, it's pretty cool (click to show/hide)

Fair enough, you caught me not checking what the order was.  Good job.

I also am a big fan of not missing the main point for a smaller, trivial one that had no real bearing on the discussion.  Perhaps I should have said "one of the commandments".  Will that offend you less?

Whoh. You seem somewhat offended.

<Re-derail>

How can you get, you shall kill these people out of you shall not kill?

Hey, guess what's not cool - passive-aggressive attacks and semantic arguments. Quit it, or you will be reported. I'm not really worried about the derail provided it's civil and doesn't get hit completely out of the park in regards to the topic at hand.

Article 16.
•(1) Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution.
•(2) Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses.
•(3) The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State.

Oh. My. God.

I just had a conservigasm.

Where is the source for that quote and what country does it apply to ?

Edit, oops. did not realise there were more pages of this thread. Coffee kicking in now.. try again.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  It applies to everyone in the UN.

Of course, once you factor in Article 1, Article 2 and Article 7 you realise his selective quoting is meaningless, but whatever.

Hey look, a scholarly essay on the subject at hand. If the subject is what the 2nd Commandment is actually about. Which it could be, if we want to avoid this current fight but keep the discussion going in the same general direction (toward locking).

Quote
In Deuteronomy, however, Moses makes clear that God's commandment was intended to forbid Israel from making graven images of Yahweh Himself:
Quote
So watch yourselves carefully, since you did not see any form on the day Yahweh spoke to you at Horeb [i.e., Mt. Sinai] from the midst of the fire; lest you act corruptly and make a graven image for yourselves in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the sky, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water below the earth. (Deut. 4: 15-18, adapted from NASV)
Moses links the prohibition to make a graven image to the fact that God, at Sinai, did not show himself to them in any form. Clearly, Moses understands the prohibition to forbid Israel's making any graven image of Yahweh Himself.

I'm not argueing about it, just saying that such quotes should be sourced. The unitied nations bill of human rights tends to be guidelines rather than enshrined in law as far as I know. There are plently of members that happen to ignore whichever bits are inconvenient to them. but I don't want to get into this, as it's not what the thread is about.

JackRabbit. That is really bad, but it's not exactly unexpected that you will find pockets of homophobia around the civilised world. The best plan is to organise a big protest of some kind. It's almost certain that at least one of the many people who are upholding this homophobia have a secret homosexual lover, of a fetishist secret of some kind. If the weather is good, a total boycott of the ball, with an alternative party in the open a mile away would be good. :)

This commandment seems to forbid Israel from representing Yahweh with a symbol. Is God serious?
Sorry, I couldn't take this article at all seriously after this line :P.

I'm a bit appealed that that guys is concerned by the symbol prohibition but not by "for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me moahahahahahahahah *cough *cough, now bow before me pitiful insect and tell me how I am awesome" part!

Being Bi doesn't mean you have twice a chance or getting laid. It means that you get twice a chance of being told "Hell no" on a Saturday night.
