Thank you, DF!
« on: November 09, 2010, 03:07:55 pm »

 ;D
I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone here that has made this amazing phenominon known as Dwarf Fortress what it is today. None of you know me, this is my first post, and I'm generally the epitome of a lurker. I recently started playing Dwarf Fortress but a week ago. I never could have imagined how lucky I was to stumble upon this amazing... feat of... awesome! I have never, ever, had so much with a free, open source game. Its been years since I had this much fun with a paid commercial game, and the only similar "WOW" experience that has come to my mind is the first time I played Civilizations, many years ago. So thanks to the developer for his incredible vision to giving me one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences i've had in years.

And thank you, to every single one of you in the modding/tutorial community. You've taken an incredibly complex game and allowed someone like myself to slowly eek my way into it, and I know I'll be hooked on this for years (I've been playing every spare second of rare free time that I get... and get shakes at work for more digging, carpentry, and crafting!) LOL. But I really thank all of you for the incredible effort you've put into this amazing experience.
And I hope I do not come off as pretentious by saying this. But I wanted to say I happily donated $40 to DF today. It's the best $40 I've spent in the past year easily, and when it comes to gaming experience the most deserved $40 in a long time. I look so forward to seeing where DF goes from here!

Welcome!
DF isn't open source, though. But it is the best nonetheless.

Escapt lunitic syndrome: A love of DF so much that they are unable to maintain there aloofness. Other symtoms include worshipping toads and dreaming in ascii.

There is no cure, because why would you want one? Before you know how everything works is the best part!

Is that why we start as escaped lunatics. It never made sense before.

Holy carp, that does make sense. The entire non DF playing world is in fact inside the asylum, reading the instructions on packs of toothpicks. DF players are outside the asylum, playing a game with virtually no (in-game) instructions whatsoever. Does this mean Toady loosely resembles a conglomeration of David Bowies?

This just in... I officially had DF dreams last night... I know there is a whole thread on this... but I can't believe it, resistance is truly futile... and I sat in awe when I saw the area specific damage system at work last night... my poor dwarf got her right foot and right hand smashed by a child snatching goblin....

5 more hours of work... then i will swarm upon that goblin settlement like a plague!!! bwahahahahah....

Welcome to the fold!!! [TWITCH]

I've been stalking worshiping obsessi observing the Bay12 forums since the 40d days, and not long ago I couldn't resist signing up ANY LONGER!

I'd recomend (going even further back) if anyone has the heresy misfortune to have DENIED THE WILL AND WARNING OF ARMOK not read the gruesome lovely story of Boatmurdered. Please do so before I tear off your sock and beat you to death with it.

In fact here is the link:
http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/Boatmurdered/Introduction/

Just remember to keep the hospital stocked with +doctors+ and addamantine thread because your're going to need stitches afterward. (Laughter CAN kill)

Once again welcome, and remember PULL THE LEVER!

The part that made me laugh the most was always the butterfly jamming the door open and the werewolf table. Don't know why.
