Perhaps IQ is the wrong measurement to make, but certainly something to measure intelligence, like maybe a test on American history. You get 8 questions and if you get 4 or more wrong you can't vote and the test is composed of randomized questions so there's no real cheating involved. If you get fewer than 6 correct perhaps you'd get a quarter of a vote or something. And I did say mental birth defects. That's not euthanasia, that's a choice. I know I'd be pretty torn and would like to have an option if I found out I'd end up having a vegetable in place of a kid. I didn't, by the way, mean less significant things that just affect how one thinks (Autism, Asperger's, etc.), but the kinds of things that make a human less of a person than your average canine. And for your information, I'm not fifteen. I'm nine, almost thirty-four.

I'm not trying to start a flame war, just elicit thought and share my viewpoints.

So... only those specialising in American history get a vote?

And it's not euthanasia, as that's people choosing to end their lives towards the end.  It is, on the other hand, eugenics.

Why should we kill stupid people?

They're awesome.

So i's better to give all power to organization you don't control in any way than in an organization whose member are elected by the poeple... that's pure nonsense.

The bottom line is : poeple far away are weird, let's govern like I want with the poeple of my town. Like that, no inference from the poeple of Washington, and I'm sure the money I spend goes to project I want to fund.

To this the answer is : you can't. There is a big world out there, there is a lo of things to do, a lot of thing to take into account, and we have to live together. I could go on, explain how lots of policies have to be coordinated in order to work, how some prolem are regional, other nationals, other concern the whole humanity, and that you have to get institution able to deal with each. But that's pretty much obvious.

That seems to imply that I am clogging this thread, and that this action degrades the quality of the thread. This thread cannot get any worse.

Also, personal insult.

How about all citizens can vote except those convicted of a felony?

Doesn't that allow toddlers to vote?

What makes a felon unfit to vote?  Does it matter if the felon is later pardoned, or if the relevant crime is later demoted to a misdemeanor?

If you live in the US legally and are of a certain age you ought to get a vote, excluding stupid people because stupid people are easily influenced and manipulated by the charisma and eloquence of the likes of Obama. I don't hate him or anything, but he certainly wasn't elected for his politics. The essence of a "test" is to verify that the person who's voting knows the first thing about the office and the people they're voting for.
