We should lock all the government people in a building and refuse them food and water until they come to a resolution.

Or kill and eat each other.

We come out ahead either way.

They cannot last forever

(Even if they could, we would just hook them up to some machine to harness there endless energy.)

Muz, why do you like socialism?

Because it works. The government gives you education, health care, safety, pays for things everyone generally wants (deciding what deserves subsidies is a major point of argument, though), mandates a minimum and suitable income for you.

In return, you're expected to go to school, do your best, get a good job, then pay back the government so it can distribute your money to other people. If you're too lazy to get a great job, fine, you're still working hard and the government just taxes you a little. If you're unemployed, the government will find you something to do, but if you reject it, no free money for you. If you get a great job, or even create your own business, that's awesome, and they'll cut a bit more of your profits.

In effect, it really is an equal opportunity thing. I'm really not fond of the USA system where everyone pays for their own stuff and nobody else's. It keeps the poor poorer and the rich richer.

My girlfriend comes from a small village in the woods, her father passed away when she was young, and her mother has a stroke, so her parents have no source of income. The government gives her mother a handicap pension, gives her loans (with no interest!) and free education. Now she's got a medium-high income job as a civil engineer. If it wasn't for socialism, she'd be stuck in a minimum wage job for the rest of her life and also not contribute so much to the economy as she could. It works.

Same story for my mother : education paid partially by the gov + pension for her mom = success instead of poverty.
Equality and social security is great, you should try it sometimes.

Coming from an American, that is funny as hell. Don't you know that your whole economy is running out of other poeple's money
Bonus point : the poeple whose you borrow call themselves socialist.

We are running out of money thanks to our experiments with socialist policies, thank you for setting that one up.

To be fair, we, as the US, are running out of money because we take $5-or-cheaper-to-make-products from Asia and selling them to our own citizens for 10+ times the cost without regulations, and without regulations borrowed money from China and Europe while all that money ends up in the hands of those that run the businesses without regulations, however, the rich will keep telling you it's all due to socialism. Thanks for setting that one up.

Yeah, bush may has well been Stalin avatar with all the social reform and socialist stuff he did.
Oh wait, my bad, it's Obama, with all the reform he did, because US national debt appeared with him...

Like it or not, republicain pretty much bankrupted the US."neo-liberals" and other "droite décomplexée" are trying to do the same thing in Europe. We don't let them, and may hope to see them crushed at the next election, luckily.

Really? Tax cuts for multimillionaires and waging a decade-long war in Iraq is socialist?

I'll grant you that Medicare/Social Security are also a major budgetary problem, but blaming it solely on those is like saying, "We're out of money this month because we continued to buy groceries even after I bought a new car stereo."

Anyway, Redking, how could a non proportional voting system not end with the dominant class abusing his privilege?
The voting class would have everything in his hand.

That'll happen regardless. Ever hear of "tyranny of the majority"? I never said it was a perfect or even equitable answer to the dilemma. But I do think you'd wind up with more effective government and generally less stupid shit in general. For instance, you wouldn't have Oklahoma passing a Constitutional amendment to ban Sharia law. Or resolutions to rename French fries.

Extra-special points to the first lawyer who successfully argues that:

Sharia specifically includes Old Testament/Abrahamic law & the Old Testament is where things like prohibitions on homosexuality and Sunday-related restrictions come from ∴gay marriage is legal and all "blue laws" are immediately abolished in the State of Oklahoma.
