Do fortification material include things like metal bars?  If so could someone reinforce the van with metal piping and other things, then run some razor wire on it, someone with constructing skill of course.  Also do we gain skill levels in this game?
Take some mechanical supplies and the razor wire and set up some garret traps, which when walked into, slices the head off of the thing to trigger it, set them up at the back entrances to the water tower, aka the two spots other then the van entrance.  At night time I'll take first watch and shoot any zombies that attempt to get up the water tower or at the van.

'fortification supplies' includes boards, sheet metal, pipes, fencing, concrete, sandbags, etc.
you might gain skill levels, mostly in things you've go no skill in (faster to level what you don't know). I imagine somebody will be gaining ranks in !! ? !! pretty soon.

Nuts, I should have taken ranks in crafting. I want to make a cow catcher for the van out of RAZOR WIRE.

Begin training my dog Volt to become the greatest dog of the post-apocalypse since Dogmeat. Start with training him to guard an area and bark at strangers.

Also hell yeah weird magic zombie apocalypse; I've been getting sick of "The Zombies have a VIRUS made by the GOVERNMENT" thing goin on lately.

I'll set up a machine shop in the storage cabin, and move building supplies there.

Next order of business should probably involve getting a generator of some sort.  Oh, also more food; we're gonna need it.

It's not really that much stuff. 1 Fort supply is ~1 sheet of plywood. Or a sheet of metal, or a dozen or so sandbags... 1 would shore up a window, at least 5 to make a wall, and WAY more if you plan on making, say, a shack (5 walls ~25 fort sup. ~5' cube inside. and it wont survive very long if zombies know you're there.)

The pump shed is pretty tight, but would make a good machine shop. You could use a lathe in there, if you had one. A drill press (standard or improvised) would let you have FUN with bullets.
