Teleporting cage contents?
« on: June 06, 2008, 12:59:00 pm »

I've recently started executing captured gobbos by dumping their cages into a channel and then flooding that channel with magma. As soon as the cages are destroyed, they're killed. Something odd though. The iron they should have been carrying was gone. I assumed it melted, but I noticed a bunch of smoke at the cages where they were captured. I inspected the tile, and all their gear was teleported to that tile, and the things that were on fire was the clothes they were wearing.

Maybe the game doesn't keep track of their clothes when they're caged, and since they ceased to exist, it returned it to where it was last in the world?

It's well-known:\
000178 □ [dwarf mode][items]   (Report) when cage traps are consumed by lava, the corpses of the dead go to capture location

It can lead to some fun traps though.  Just wait for a goblin war party to get close to the point of capture, and then dump the cage.  A burning goblin corpse will appear in the middle of the soon-to-be-burning goblin non-corpses.  Fun ensues.

I had the same problem.

I caught 5 goblins in different places, then decided to burn them as there is no other way of killings the goblin inside. (Nothing atacked me for the last two years (I have 120 dwarves and 1200000 wealth so it's... strange. I thought that is the fault of goblins who were caged).

I flooded goblins with magma and suddenly - fires starded to burn in different places. Not only where the goblins where caught, but also in the hall where I mounted the cages for some time. As long as I played everything was burning (including 30 dvarwes, including five elite soldiers). The graveyard also burned (strange, as goblins, caged or free haven't even managed to see the graveyard, so where did the fire went from?)

Another buggy(?) thing is the duration of fire - it was burning for 6 months.

Known issue.  Burning items will burn forever.

If we could get dwarves wearing fire-proof gloves to use them properly, I would say dump all burning objects into some wayer (4/7 squares are the best)
