Legendary Jeweler eternally constructing workshop
« on: September 14, 2006, 07:36:00 pm »

http://rapidshare.de/files/33151148/region2.sav.html

This is the savegame of mine that has a Legendary Jeweler, achieving her fame through the construction of a perfect Ruby, attempting to set up a Jeweler's workshop. It's the perfect setup in this case, as she is the only one at the moment with Jewelry enabled.

She is also holding the artifact in one of her hands.

I'll soon have a legendary miner that has proficiency in mechanics to see if a naturally occuring talent does not spark this attitude.

EDIT: Sooner than I thought. I quickly had him build a mechanic's workshop and had the other distracted. Not surprisingly, the miner had no problems at all in putting it together, even though he still had a pick in his hands.

There seems to be a bug where dwarves will occassionally refuse to move untasked items from the area.  Suspending then reactivating the construction of the building seems to get them to finish it.

I'm sure that there is a bug like that, but it isn't what's happening here. Every single time I've had a Legendary dwarf who was raised to that status via Strange/Fey/etc Mood and apparently still holding tightly onto his created artifact, I found that they will take forever to complete a "Construct -task" outside of a workshop.

For example, one or two seasons after that save game I slapped together a dirt road to lure the humans in and fleece them with mechanisms. On one section the Legendary Jeweler was DANCING all over the sections he set out to build. There was nothing blocking her from completing the task; no materials lying on the ground and no animals distracting her.

Although, they do actually finish a task (or I quite possibly forgot to switch somebody else's Jewelry job off in that instance), it just takes them an extremely long time to do so. And that didn't include the whole "I don't feel like working, don't bother me I'm ON BREAK," act she had after getting thirsty and abandoning her incomplete workshop.

I'll download it and see if I can see anything when I next look at the saves.

edit:  I need both the region#.sav and the region# folder in some kind of zip/rar to load the game.

My apologies then. I had assumed (after renaming the region2 folder to see if it still pointed to it) that the .SAV file was a standalone...file. So instead of being a good little bug-finder, I sort of overwritten it...

No harm done, fortunately. I'll retrieve the file I uploaded originally and .rar it along with the region folder, as per request.

Coming to you soon: NOW

Somehow, there got to be only 6 files in your region folder, rather than just under 300.  Maybe the save is deceased...

Wierd. I have absolutely no problems with running the .sav file. Could it be pointed to the region1 folder instead, which has a full complement?

Only if it was manually renamed.  On the other hand, it's probably possibly to use a sav file without the folder and have the universe lurch around trying to compensate, but it's still not a reliable save.  In any case, I think I've got a save now with a similar issue, and it will hopefully address both problems.

So it might generate more errors, if I'm understanding things right. I suppose it's time to regenerate another world...
