There is plenty important things apart from these. It's kind of the point of this game  ;)

Do you desigate rooms? Press q, go near a furniture (bed, table, chair, chain) and you can creates bedrooms, dining halls, prisons, etc... Your dwarves CAN sleep in a  hallway and eat on the floor of the foodpile, sure, but they don't like it, and making rooms for them is easy and quite fun.

Working out military is a good challenge, and necessary... :D
If you need some help with that, I could tell you a few things I've learnt the hard way. :P

Yeah, that wasn't very nice, first reply dude. The image he used was even posted on a german website.

To the OP, I'd recommend using all that excess stone. [ b ]uild a [w]orkshop to turn those stone into something useful, like a [m]ason's workshop to build some furniture, a [t]mechanic's shop to build mechanisms used in pumps n' stuff, or a [r? I think its r...] craftdwarf shop to make useless stone trinkets the merchants love.

Build an outer perimeter with 2z high watch towers and raised bridges...who needs walls anyhow...

Exerpt from townbrush.txt by Internet Kraken:

"Nobody wants to live in Townbrush, and for good reason. Almost everyone that has come to Townbrush has been eaten, stabbed, crushed, drowned, hacked, incinerated, or beaten to death with an octopre skin backpack. When we're not under siege, we're being attacked by Forgotten Beasts. And when we're not being attacked by Forgotten Beasts, there's probably a zombie whale crushing someone to death in the dining room."

I suggest that you check out one of the 2 tutorials in the "DF Gameplay questions" forum (especially the playalong tutorials from tinypirate), since you obviously just started playing, and I know that this can be depressing if you have no clue what to do. Also, it's not possible to play DF with someone else, it is a singleplayer game. Do you want to share achievements or a story from your fort? Post it here.

Yes, I agree on this point with you.

Yes, absolutely. Because you obviously were able to get yourself to the level of doing grand megaprojects involving magma falls and statues of Armok and elaborate kitten and puppy powered Noble killing chambers etc. within 4 hours of starting the game too.

If you are one of those rare people, then you, sir, are to commended, but that still doesn't give you the right to bash someone.

For the OP:

Don't let the jackwagons discourage you.

Try to get in on one of the succession forts. It's not exactly multiplayer, but it's close.

thanks for the replies.
Yeah I know/knew about bloodline games and I also read some of the tutorials now :D Ill continue tomorrow cuz im rare on time.
The thing with bloodline game is that you usually have to wait alot because there aren't so many and those who still exist are full!!!
I thaught it would be a nice idea to play with someone else a little "bloodline" game,so that you don't have to wait so long :O

Anyway,good night.Its kinda late here now =)

Something that springs to mind looking at your layout is z-levels.

Dont neglect digging down to expand your base, journeys between stockpiles/workshops gathered around a long stair tend to be faster than hiking back and forth across 1 z-level.

If you got basic constructions up then you might want to think about starting up a metal industry and train up an armourer/weaponsmith for later on

There's a utility called dfterm
It lets somebody run df but interact with it through another window, even across computers. You can take turns controlling it with people and such.

As for design I usually go with more compact spaces. Yours are alright but I think you could cut out two of the workshop rooms and still get one of each workshop (and you only need one early on if you don't have any particular reason to have more.)

As for the beds you usually want to dig a small space and throw down a door then have the bed inside of the sectioned off room. 3 tiles total (4 if you include the door,) is all the average dwarf really needs (give them a cabinet and a box/chest too or else they may leave clothes all over their floor.) A 3x3 space (plus doorway) would be more luxurious than most dwarves deserved but maybe giving those to champions or your favorite dwarves is reasonable. Some nobles may demand even grater rooms than this but you only have to dig out a few of those.

I'd be interested in starting a succession game except I'm too much of a control freak and I hate the dead-line idea of one year.
