Shadow, I should note that z-1 is Sandy Clay, and that the estimate that I gave you was for stone. You can tear through soil twice as fast as you can tear through stone.

Also, if not otherwise specified I'll assume that your map has North at the top. I forgot that these forums come with that capability- if I get ambitious I'll make some more accurate maps that way.

Fuzzy, bear in mind that underground crops need muddied soil to grow in. I know that Bowdown2Q, at least, brought a bucket you can use to irrigate someplace that Shadow digs out. You can see a murky pool downhill that isn't that far off- given travel time, you could probably get a small (9 tile) farm plot built and irrigated where Shadow is digging.

Yes, a 3x3 will do nicely.

I'll plant rock nuts.

I will begin the week by helping to haul water to any place underground that needs irrigation.  I also build a mechanic's workshop in the other 3x3 space using a bauxite.  Any remaining time will be spent helping Fuzzy with the farming.

hm... I construct a Butchery and a Tannery outside, near the entrance. I also inform the cats that I've only let them live long enough to bear kittens, whom I will choke to death for CAT SOAP.

guys I need that bauxite, so back off and build it with something else.
Build a wood burner near the entrance using bauxite
Build a smelter near the entrance using bauxite
Build a metal forge using bauxite and the anvil
Burn 2 wood pieces
smelt 2 bronze bars (using ore, one action)
Claim bauxite blocks, all the ore, and all the wood.
Forge 1 bronze axe.

Oy!  My character is particularly fond of bauxite, and will need it for magma-proof mechanisms, including the one that will go into THE BIG RED LEVER (don't ever ever ever pull...no, not even then).  Not to mention I brought it.  You can borrow it for now, but I'll be wanting those boulders back.

We can deconstruct them when we're ready to move fully underground.

You know, there are other magma-safe stones besides bauxite.

Don't forget you have alt-numpad for many symbols and the wiki for workshop tiles, and stone tiles if you really want to, but colours don't work in code mode.

My dwarf is also fond of bauxite, though he likes olivine too, so that should be enough.

I don't liiiike bauxite, I just need it to start the metal works, you can have it later after I get some stone mined out, at the moment though we need a few weapons, a pick and another axe.
