Shade-o, how many plump helmet meals could 20 plump helmet spawn produce, if grown by skilled grower such as myself?

I don't need hard numbers, but an estimate would be nice.

Also, another idea. Would it be possible to have an inbuilt greenhouse into the mountain? Like make farm plots one z-level below the top of the cliff, then channel out the roof and replace it with glass.

I've changed the growing durations to 3 and 6 months, your pleas have softened my heart. Each 'handful' of seeds will plant one square, and that would, depending on skill, luck and other conditions, grow into 0 to 5 crops per thee months. If you don't take care of them the field will die, but if you maintain them well and add fertiliser, you could max it out. You could get 300 Plump Helmets in 3 months, or 600 Sweet Pods and 400 Quarry Bushes in 6 months.

Fields have a health level that gradually depletes over time. When you maintain the field, you're watering, weeding, pruning, everything you need to boost the yield. If you have terrible skill in it and/or have a withering touch, you can actually hurt the field.

So, How many days do you think it'll take for the water to unfreeze?

Actually, could we try breaking the ice with a pick, then melting it indoors?
Or is it too cold for that?

The river should start becoming unstable in early Spring, then melt completely a week or so after that. Sure you can harvest ice and snow for water, it might not be clean though, especially if Hastur's dumping waste in it.
