I'll fire a warning bolt at Norrec, then smash against the wall where the accursed wealth beast told me to.

Gar: thanks Aned inwardly, and promises to gamble some coin in her name once he's out of there.

Everybody hurries on through the now open passage. You come up to another, larger room.

You are standing on some cut stone, on the edge of a great rough chasm that splits the right side of the floor apart, far wider than you could leap. The masonry is intact to the left and looks stable, leading to another corridor on the opposite side. The chasm disappears into darkness below and continues through the wall on the right. Above, rough stone, roots and soil protrude slightly. It would appear that the room has been damaged by some shifting of the earth.

This is definitely not part of the planned defences of this place, as several traps appear to have been damaged triggered. A giant axe blade is embedded in a wall. A faint, irregular clicking can be heard opposite a wall marked by hundreds of tiny impacts and with a pile of fragile metal shards at the base. A number of pressure plates are either depressed or knocked out of their grooves. There are numerous small piles of rubble scattered about.

Anything worth looting, or should we carry on cautiously?

Look around for non damaged traps on this side of the chasm very carefully.  Also get Gar to tell me if how long he thinks that floor will be able to stay like that before breaking apart like the rest of this room.

Gar: "I wouldn't really like to find out. If we're going around it, stay as close to the stable wall as possible, and one at a time."

Follow Gar's advice.

I'll wander off to whichever way my hard-boiled instincts tell me to.

Taking care not to cause any further damage, the team gets to the other side. At this closer range, a book is found half-buried in rubble. It appears to be an ordinary leather-bound tome. There are no distinguishing markings on the cover.

I'll pick up the book, then hand it to Tholtig if it doesn't do anything. Afterward I'll wander off in the direction my hard-boiled instinct tells me to.

Look through the rubble for any more books or anything that might tell us something about the area we are in.

Give me that! I'll read it.

I grab the book before Lillipad can pass it, and try to skim the contents to figure out what it's about.
