Does Iron have any mermaids to harvest converse with?

It is in the middle of a mountain cliff, with a waterfall and river.  It is also cold.  I'm fairly certain that disqualifies mermaids.

The Underclerk says:
Quote
As you can see on this map, the Cliffs of Iron are deep inland in a cold coniferous forest. There have been reports of mermaids in Skaldivon, but they have no interest in swimming upriver towards colder water. It's entirely possible that there are mermaids at the volcanic lake at the river source, but they would have no desire to leave the warm water, nor would they be able to traverse the waterfalls en route. However, due to the warmer water it may be possible that it has a transient summer population of water sprites from Skaldivon, apparently they like waterfalls.

The Underclerk looks nervously at the page that Sandow slammed on his desk.

Well Hastur, you seem to have disconcerted the Underclerk. Way to go.

Unless anyone strenuously objects, you're The Doom of Canyons embarking to The Warhold of Icy Winds.

The Underclerk spreads out a final scroll: The symbol.

This is one of the most important parts. A good symbol represents your culture long after its name is forgotten and its people are scattered. Er, not that we're expecting that to happen any time soon.

They are:
Mountains, a fortress, a mountain, a forest, a mushroom, a scarab, an eclipse, a moon, a sun, an anvil, shortswords, a crossbow, a shield, warhammers, maces, battle axes, a helmet, pickaxes, a mechanism, mechanisms.

I'm torn between the fortress, the mountain, and the shield. Uh... The fortress!

Is it really necessary to doom all canyons, can't we just threaten them a bit?  (J/K Doom of Canyons is fine.)

I'm going to go with an eclipse.

I say the fortress, since it demonstrates how we doom canyons by filling them with buildings, and also matches our settlement name. EDIT: HELL YES FORTRESS MENACING WITH SPIKES OF SOLAR POWER fort eclipse

Additionally, is it too late to submit one extra name for the fort?

This compromise is pleasing on the eyes. It represents the fortress we'll build, and its inevitable end by our own hands.

I would vote for the eclipse even if my dwarf didn't worship a goddess of dusk and twilight.
