"I merely represent those of the fortress, but as you wish.  I hereby swear to Hipobis Giltgold and the Dwarven Pantheon to tell the truth, and to do my best to see that justice is done, so help me."

"Now then, you have refuted none of the evidence brought against you by memory of the other members of this fortress's founding.  Have you no argument with them?  Need I remind you that you wanted proof and I have brought proof that on the very first day, you attempted to force other FREE dwarves to do your will and to take their goods.  Do you have any evidence or excuse for your actions?  If not I shall move on to my next point.

Also, refrain from addressing issues that have not yet come up during my case, you'll have your chance to address the issues you believe are important later, during your case."

"That does not refute any of my evidence.  The judge will decide which crimes you are guilty of after the trial, as is customary of dwarven courts.  Now do you have any evidence or excuse for your behavior?  If not, I would like to move on to the next piece of evidence."

Litast listens very intently to both sides of the dispute.

(Hastur, I wasn't trying to be malicious, but more funny because Shade-o made a post somewhere that said "Throw rocks at those without political opinions" or something to that effect. Thinking back, I probably should have put that in OOC thread :x)

((Well, this is awkward, although now it has clearly grown to the point where now we can't stop.  Granted there is a valid case behind all of this))

Nylona checks through some scrolls and books.

"Ummm... Sandow is accused of multiple counts of thieving from others, which could lead to a variety of punishments depending on what precedent we follow... Tattooing, jailing, finger-cutting, drafting, confiscation of goods... These books might be out of date...

"In the case that no formal justice organisation is available the trial shall be overseen by the dwarves of highest civilian and military authority, making that Litast and Shem, and administered by whoever is deemed most qualified... Which is me, I guess... A majority guilty/innocent verdict is delivered by those three, and any punishment applied by military authority...

"The judges are to be convinced by those involved in the dispute, or whoever is representing them... In a series of three statements from each party, starting with the accuser and alternating between the two and bringing up any physical evidence or witnesses relevant to the matter. Oh, and you need to swear to be truthful on Ekast, Goddess of oaths and loyalty. That's an important bit.

"So, if Norrec would like to start on behalf of the aggrieved...?"

"Just remember you only get three tries...

Shem looks on, bewildered at first, then his face slowly becomes more and more impassive as the charges are leveled against Sandow.

"Aye, Norrec, express yer grievances. Akil knows we cannae dispense wi' justice simply because we are nae in th' Mountainhomes."
