I had just expanded my farming area, and I set the lever for the floodgates to be pulled. A peasant came over, pulled the lever, and then immediately went into the farming area to pick up a stone. The area filled with water, and the peasant began to drown.

I set the lever to be pulled again, but the peasant drowned before that happened. I'm not sure if he was running away, or got washed there, but he died in the doorway.

But now, with the floodgates closed, there is an endless series of pulses/ripples of water flowing out from the doorway where he died.

I suspect if the body was removed and the door closed, the infinite water would stop. But no dwarf can get tehre as their jobs keep getting cancelled by the water. I've had the game paused for many minutes now, and the error messages are still coming in.

Yeah, uh, you've flooded the world, but being a dwarf you neglected to build a boat and fill it with animals (to eat)...

The bad news is that, IIRC, this isn't going to fix itself, unless maybe a future update changes water behaviour and you wait for that. If you flood an area through a floodgate, and that flood reaches a river, then it gets a permanent source, so to speak, and becomes a permanent flood. The same happens with liquid hot magma. Even if you could pull that lever again, it would continue to flood.

The flooding was permanent before it reached the river. I had pulled the lever, and the floodgates were closed. All the water was coming from the square with the open door and the dead dwarf.

There are some known issues with weird pulses of flows.  Still working on it.

I also have a similar problem with ice that returns very soon after being dug out (even the "snow covered ice" cover returns). When it has melt, it is a source of infinite water.

It's not even the same issue; water uses flows now instead of the flood/antiflood system back in the 2D version that caused the original thread.
