Sieges appearing inside my base
« on: June 04, 2008, 07:31:00 am »

I just had a siege appear in the middle of my workshop district with no way to get in... Well unless they swam through lava and moved through a bit of the district without anybody noticing. I had enough troops on-hand to finnally defeat them but they were able to slaughter a good 15 civilians and a good number of my troops.

Is it a bug that they showed up inside my fort? And is it likely to happen again? cause I can't survive many more sieges like that.

Do you have temperature disabled?

It shouldn't I haven't messed around with anything but I am using one of the graphics packs so it's a possibility that it might have been messed around with.

Yeah, it sounds most likely that your temperature was off (a lot of people do this to speed things up. Dramatically.) and they just waltzed through the lava into your workshop area.

If that is the problem, one obvious (to me) solution would be to enforce object densities. Practically nothing sinks in magma, after all. With temperature off, you should be able to walk on it, not swim in it.

One wonders what fire imps are made out of...or perhaps they're just exceptionally good at swimming against bouyancy.

Imps must be made of uranium (that also explains fireballs)   :D

I don't think that's it because I;m pretty paranoid about lava so I never actually went outside to dig my lava channel I just dug the channell over one of the swellings of the lava tube and then walled off the top of the channel. And there never was a time when they were outside my fort because when the siege started they were right next to my clothier's shop and in my metal storeroom.

They can't have sneaked in unless it was an ambush. It might be related to immigrants apearing out of nowhere.

Somewhat related: Kobold thieves keeps appearing on a cliff without ramps that's in the middle of the map and within my fortress area.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Parachutes? Maybe it's the Kobold SAS?

I once shot a bear in the eye with a bow on the first shot, cut it up, found another one, and shot it in the eye too. The collective pile of meat weighed more than my house.

God help us. We thought only Dwarves could air drop.

Odd how "Experiment" in DF is often synonymous with "Raging inferno of death and dispair"

Dwarves have catapults and several animals as cushions.

Parachute technology has yet to grace the dwarven kingdom.

Perhaps their terminators?
