I probably should start converting my original data into z-scores, or moving onto heterodox religious populations in a new thread, but Pew had recently released its dataset for the religious knowledge question, and I felt that could shed new light onto this population. Pew asked atheists if they believe in God and the meaning of atheism, allowing us to check whether atheists who say they believe in God know what atheism means. I checked this before by looking at education, but it seems that asking people more directly what is atheism may be a more valid test of seeing whether atheists who say they believe in God know what atheism means. I'm not going to calculate the R^2 though, and if I do revisit it, I'll start using z-scores, but I felt that just a graph comparing the views of theist atheists to atheist atheists is at least semi-useful enough to publish.

I also learned how to "weigh" survey data, so when recalculating everything, I'll start weighing the results, which should lead to a more accurate picture of society. I have weighed the result for this graph as well.

Surely you can not believe in a God and be unsure that one exists.

So, I am someone who belives that god doesnt exist, and is some fabrication of man. Yet would not mind at all that he exists because it woud be cool, and would believe in him if I got some solid proof. Atheist?

I don't believe percentages and statistics. I don't believe in an omnipotent "God", but I do believe that there's a force that guides us. We choose our own fates, but if we listen, we'll know which path is the best.

Except that this is basically a discussion about semantics (or how some people interpret it) since it's reacting to a poll that seems to show some people putting themselves down as atheists who believe in a god.

In Religious Studies and Sociology of Religion, people spend years trying to define these terms.

What I mean to say is, somebody should start citing Sociologists, and not the hearsay of the layman.

There is also the old "god != god" argument. The old "life force" peoples seems to be fond of these days doesn't fall under my definition of god, and I don't hate it like I hate most of the cults of Yaveh.
There is gradual disbelief depending on your definition of "god", and one of my favorite saying is that I'm the god of the realty playing in my head (and that it'll cease to exist when I die).

Proofs? It'd be hilarious otherwise : it so happen that the universe has been developed by a wise omnipotent programmer but has been released free and open source and our particular copy is owned by a teenager god with anger management problem and easily bored. It would explain so much.

Yeah, that's Agnostic Theism (as per my title text as of this posting). Same way as I can believe that Mr. Rogers was a totally-super nice person but without being able to, and knowing that no human can, prove it (because nice is subjective in this case).

I am an apatheist/atheist. I don't believe in God, and I don't "feel" that there is a God (if you see what I mean) but I don't particularly care whether I'm right or wrong about that.

Why call it "God" (edit: or spirit, or force or whatever...), when you can just call it "stomach acid" as it is? Derp.
