Injured Party: Enemy Civ?
« on: June 04, 2008, 12:38:00 am »

In my last siege one my brewer for my current fort tantrumed due to an unnoticed way into my fortress being exploited when I was watching a different squad. On his way out he managed to injure one of the siegers, as well as destroying a bed and injuring one of my planters. The disorderly conduct charge for some reason is showing up on his criminal record (post-mortum. He got a beating from my recently-appointed sheriff and died of blood loss.)

This version of my game is modded with the current version of the Battle of the Blood Gods Mod. My civ is Vulpinan, the siegers were storm giants. The Giants have all of the evil tags and whatnot, so really i'm not certain why I'm getting a crime recordered.

I can post a save if you want it. I'm not certain if this has come up before or not. :/ it's a somewhat unusual situation.

Yeah, I doubt it checks the entity affiliations of fist-fight victims, since it probably assumed the presence of an invader would trigger a regular combat.  I'll note it down.

That is so awesome. I can totally picture a goblin coming back to your fortress after a siege to present charges for assault and battery against a tantruming dwarf that punched him.

I do not believe there is enough prove to be able to convict the dwarf for an assault charge.  Only for the battery charge.

t''s so sad.  It''s as if De Beers as invaded Dwarf Fortress.  I nearly cried when I saw how valued and rare diamonds were in Dwarf Fortress.

Doesn't the real world work this way, in theory? I believe someone, somewhere (Geneva convention?) has established rules for "proper wartime conduct," and after battles it is feasible to press charges against your wartime opponents for various misdeeds that went beyond "normal wartime behavior."

You never know. I can't really see goblins doing this sort of thing, but what about sieging humans? It's too bad this is just a bug, as it could lead to some extremely interesting situations...

Interesting?

Fortress law #42:

Situation resolved. Carry on, citizens.

If you ever join the military, remember, if you shoot someone in the head, you're out and they stay in, so aim below the shoulders.
