We're probably not going to be seeing anything along the lines of Howl's Moving Castle any time soon, but I'd settle for fast-moving lifts at this point.

I think I'd most likely use it for a more dwarfy entrance to my fort.

To hell with a pansy door or drawbridge...  I could have an entire section of the cliff face slide open to reveal the entrance to my fortress.  Or maybe the entire entry hall could act as a giant door/trap - shift a 10x3 corridor down 1z to open up a hallway entrance to my fort, shift it back up 1z to crush whatever is inside.

There is no way that I will not attempt to make a rollercoaster and a tower of terror.

I'm sure by the time toady gets too old to program, DF will have reached a stage where as it is sentient enough to program itself.
It won't program itself, it'll be too busy taking breaks and attending parties to code.

I'm picturing three or four dorfs holding stones and waiting for an elevator to arrive.

A large platform with the top covered in windmills should be able to walk and do stuff. I probably wouldn't have the courage to move the entire fortress, though.

So we got monsters above, monsters below, dwarves in the middle and a party in the dining hall. Sounds good to me.
If all else fails, remember one thing:  kittens are delicious, nutritious little goblin-baiters, cavern explorers, and ambush-finders.

I can see it now: Dwarven mecha right foot lifts off, then left foot before right lands...

"A section of the cavern has collapsed!"

I want that to happen, just your WHOLE walking fort, falling on a seige, I did that once, my whole fort on a support, 3 seiges at once, they came close, then, my fort sort of crushed them...

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/d/de/Imperator_Titan.jpg. This.

Or, failing that, this: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/f/fa/EPIC_Gargant1.jpg. But with the smiling face of dwarvenhood.

On a non-megaproject scale:
Lifts for my dwarves from the deepest mining shafts to the main level.
A great lift for the caravans.
GIANT GATES.
Delivery systems for stones, water and magma.
Elevators to the caverns.
SMASHING HALLWAY TRAPS OF DOOM.
Battle tanks to support the titans. If the moving parts will be railed, support trains for the railed titans.
And much, much more...

I just can't wait for that part. Really. Hope the armies, caravans and the rest get done soon enough.
