Ability to stand lost...too often?
« on: November 02, 2010, 11:08:04 am »

Is it just me or does every other fight result in a dwarf with sensory/motor nerve damage and inability to stand?

Well your dwarves have a lot of areas that if seriously wounded will remove their ability to stand.  They have L/R foot, lower leg and upper leg.

Make sure you are covering your guys properly.  High boots, leggings/greaves.  Also dont neglect the cloak, its the only piece (maybe dress too) that covers certain areas including toes and mouth area.

Also bear in mind that generally leather will not cut it against an armed foe like a goblin, metal vs leather is not pretty.

If it gets to be just too much then you can alleviate the nervous damage problems by modding the nerve tissue to heal.  Dwarves that physically lose a limb will still be screwed but the others will eventually come around

I wish I had something cool to say about this.  Because it's really cool.

Most of my dwarves that lose the ability to stand regain it after some healing time.  The only ones that never recover are ones with spinal injuries, which do seem to happen fairly often.  Hammer-wielding goblins like to snap spines through armour.

Somebody should tell these dwarves they shouldn't 'do a Braveheart' when the enemy is within melee distance.

I wonder, what would they do if someone killed their king.
Inevitable, who cares. Now an onion...

Somebody should tell Toady to activate the crutches, so the legless can hobble about.

The dwarven lower spine has been magnetized, so any strike that can make it through armor is going to sever lower body functions. In a single strike, your legendary will no longer spawn potential legendaries. But he'll get to catch up on his sleep. For the rest of his life.

Dorfs are 4' tall. They have no "upper" spine.

This supports the theory that Dwarves will do anything to get out of doing any real kind of work.

It isn't a new Dwarf Fortress version until we're made to fear some kind of regular creature.  Carp, Elephants, Unicorns, Badgers, and now Mosquitos.  I've got 5 dorfBucks on the next one being plagues of groundhogs.
