Not funny, but awesome. There's a civ in my game called "The Grapes of Wrath". LEAD BY A MAN CALLED  STONEBASIN. This was so unbelievably cool.
Was it...Bernard Stonebasin?!

Steinbeck in german means Stonebasin, Coalwalker. He was called Urist. Which is pretty much the same as John.

Ah, I missed the joke, then. Thanks.

So to recap, one minute everything was going just great, and the next we have caverns collapsing, firebreathing cave beasts, underground brush fires, a screaming swarm of poltergheists back for revenge, zombies in the corridors, drunken brawls in the dining halls, magma pouring into the caverns, rotting miasma everywhere, insanity, madness, and a flying crocodile heading right towards us!

"Egu Sloppyshovels"  Sounds like he had a *sunglasses* shitty job.

"Evhol Summitspatter" ... whose blood spattered the summit he faced off a dracon on. Not a very bright man.

"Zoka Scaldedroar", who was burned to death in dragonfire, for doing roughly the same thing as Evhol.

"Jirdo Utterbaked", who was presumably sampling some rather choice Elven herbs.

Also, from the legends of my current world, Stesokrashgur "The Molten Attack". A: 1698, mostly dwarves, no losses.
I suspect they may have been using magma-weapons.

Legend tells of a fort besieged by a dragon. When 79 brave recruits fell to its breath, the last dwarf of the fort took up arms. He sprung from his sickbed and claimed an adamant one sword before he bulrushes the dragon. A clean swipe severs the head. But the dragon claws him in the lower body and burns him alive. As he melts into a pile of booze and fat, I rename him Ronnie James Dio and change his profession to dragonslayer. He will forever be immortalized and worshipped as a dragonslayer God.

The parent civ of my current fortress is called "The Doors of War." Pretty damn badass. Too bad the doors of war seem to be designed to only let things into the fortress.

One of my Lashers (I have a whipsquad) is called "Rith Slipcloistered the Pink Merchant". I made him my broker. And my vampire queen is called "Etur Helmedspread the Granite Bean of Crewing". I'm trying to imagine what a granite bean of crewing might be, but I'm coming up blank.

There's safe. Then there's unsafe. And then there's the average dwarf fort, which remains unrated because the OSHA inspector flatly refused to go anywhere within a dozen miles of the place.

I have a dwarf civ called "The Imprisoned Whip-Labor" right now.

It almost makes me want to start some kind of succession game.

It is said knowledge is like a foul-smelling herb. It must be cooked well and thoroughly with experience to make it palatable. A young scholar's knowledge is therefore not only worthless but disgusting. -- In Dwarf Fortress you have another paradigm. Gather as much of that smelly herb as you can and toss it at your enemy, fracturing his skull through the +capybara man leather cap+.

My militia, the Creative Blunt Disembowelers.
They must have been creative if they can disembowel someone with a blunt object.
