I've had a couple dwarves with the last name "Daggergulf" for which the dwarven spelling is "Uristthabum". What's the translation on Asfoker?

I seem to get awesome names attached to the most useless artefacts. To wit: the name is 'Greatscorching the Tongs of Worship' which sounds like a torture implement used by the inquisition. It is actually an amulet.

There's safe. Then there's unsafe. And then there's the average dwarf fort, which remains unrated because the OSHA inspector flatly refused to go anywhere within a dozen miles of the place.

Only a couple years into my current fort, a migrant from the home civilization arrived with very high combat skills, making her the best warrior in the fort by a comfortable margin. A professional fighter, dodger, armor user, and biter (she was obviously fleeing a former life), I immediately put her in the active-duty squad. She fought bravely in her first goblin siege, but never managed to score a kill. Instead, in the course of facing down a goblin axe lord beside her lesser comrades in arms, just before the goblin was brought down, the monster managed a lightning-quick riposte and lopped off her entire right hand, which flew free of its owner straight up in a high arc and landed at the very top of a tower which was under construction. As its new perch among the tower rafters was inaccessible to the construction crew, the hand was left where it lay, and still today forms part of the tower.

Her name? Erush Erushendok. Her last name translates as "Handleattic."

That has got to be the best story I've ever heard from Bay12.

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).

I'm not your average Bay12er. I care about my drunken midgets.

The random name generator gave me: Girlisholes, the bald, bloody, partner of death.

It sounds like PMS'ing, so I have kept it as my fort name for a large number of runs.

I've had the Amazing Continents before.

Thing was it was about 3/4 the size of Australia in relation to the rest of the world.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

Unfortunately, I get cool or nonsensical names mostly. Dwarves named "Bloodtomb", mayor is "Helmsspell". I don't know, but it is still cool.

My favorite civ name that I've encountered was a dwarven civilization named The Wall of Cobras. I love the mental image of them tying a bunch of cobras together and jamming them into the ground.

My brother once had Peacefulfoot the Bloody, a friend of mine had Nish Glitterboots necromancer, and I had a human general named Puc Worldhorse (he was awesome).

I once found a mountain called "The Pinnacle of Stupidy"

My greatest fortress was named "Touchyballs" (by me not the RNG)

To this day the elven warrior castes hunt the enemies of nature for the purpouse of bringing back slain intelligent beings for consumption by their leaders and generals, for the good of nature and the survival of elvenkind.

And that is the story of how napalm was invented.

I'd be shocked if dwarves didn't eat the demons they killed. After all, if they're willing to eat a poison spewing monstrosity, why not a flying dinosaur thing that hates all life?
