Fortress name was "The Riddle of Steel" and my dwarves were members of "Riders of Doom."   If you don't know the reference, then you really should click the following image:

As I was generating my most recent world, my map was focused on "The Portentous Planes of Hurricanes." Wonder what the weather is like there.

A man would see that as a difficult challenge.
An elf would see that and despair.
A dwarf would see that and say, "Bring it on."

I got a dwarven civilization called The First Post. I bet it was run by trolls.

A new 31.18 world got me "The Noiseless Room" and "The Hall of Bending", both Dwarven Civilizations.

Trying to decide on a civilization for my planned embark (the first in 31.18), I browsed the world history dump and found this:

Tobul Droopydriven the Bed of Snuggling

S/he is a deity of hospitality and courage. With a title like that, you'd expect her/him to have a portfolio related to more ... horizontal activities. I don't like the civilization ("The Twinkling Salve") as much as some others in this world, but I'm tempted to pick it anyway just for that deity. Can you picture a squad of brave militiadwarves charging into battle bellowing "FOR THE BED OF SNUGGLING!"? ;)

[Argh, I dunno if I should post these in this thread, or start a new one. On the one hand, posting would be a necro and only one is actually 'hilarious'. On the other hand, starting a new one might be seen as being in poor taste... Ah, what the hell. I might as well.

40d world. Three of the local civs have badass/neat names, one of them being my dorfs' home civ. They are as follows:

"Melaomon, 'The White Realm', Human
Bongubosa,'The Unbridled Dungeons', Goblin
Oddom Bardum, 'The Cloister of Fighting', Dwarven"

This world is also in the 'Age of Heroes', when the nations of the world were fighting their final battles. The Elves, of course, are the odd civ out, being called "The Dune of Lobsters". *Sighs* Oh, RNG, you're so silly it makes me want to stab you, sometimes.

Well...

The Influential Will - a donkey bone crown. Fitting for a crown.
In dwarvish, it's "Immastud".

A weapon rack artifact. In dwarvish... "Isholdur". I guess it is a holder after all...

Dungfat. In dwarvish... "Tiger".

That is comedy gold.

Hey, reminds me one of my woodcrafters is named Thob Lolokcatten. Sounds strangely like a German version of "lolcats" in my opinion.

I don't think that sounds German to anyone who actually speaks that language. This isn't to say that the name isn't somewhat funny, despite the overall lameness of the lolcat meme.

One of my favorite random fortress names, one that I had reused several times, as well as mentioned on the forums at least once, was Snackmachines. It's also appropriate seeing how I have always relied on prepared meals for the bulk of my exports.

I had an artifact named "Planestuft".  Unlike Planepacked, it was a worthless goblin bone scepter that ate up some steel and gems.

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

I actually thought the following was a name I had read on the forum, but searching for it did nothing so it must have been a dwarf of mine: Lokum Foundorb the Rhyming Certainty of Blood. Fortress name: Lashclimax, group name: The Basement of Blowing.

Fortress name - Tinsword...

Not so odd knowing that my civilization is named "The Lances Of Craziness"...

.. And my embark team is "The searing paints"...

Crazy indeed...

Oh and a dwarf named Cerol Uriscerol...
