Most Anticlimatic Battles Ever
« on: October 31, 2010, 08:50:29 am »

I've been imagining a battle against a Forgotten Beast.
It begins to cross the bridge that is the only thing separating it from the fort.
A recruit swings his copper axe at it.
The forgotten beast dodges...falling into some magma.

(Hasn't happened to me, I haven't played long enough.0
What's YOUR most anticlimatic battle?
(If it is fictional, mention that.)

Real:
One siege, killed by my traps, 3/4 killed by my drawbridge linked to pressure pads, then, cage traps, seriously, my military wasn't even needed!

In a new fort where I was trying to do something mad (drain lake into underground volcano IIRC) I've stumbled onto a GCS (my first one ever) in first cavern. I sent in my axedwarf, he swung his axe at it... and beheaded it. I rageabandoned that fort.

some menacing sounding forgotten beast with deadly spit attacked my fort, it charged the first dwarf who counterattacked and lopped it's head off with his first blow.

Forgotten beasts in general are usually anticlimactic though. Every time I see one arrive I don't think 'oh crap' I think 'ooo biscuits and soap'

Forgotten Beasts seem to be akin to Toady playing Russian Roulette with your fortress, as they can be anything from harmless giant worms made of mud to necrotic-gas spewing nigh-invunerable iron hydras of doom.

From someone else : A FB spawned in caverns, he/she sent the whole army at it. They all died. Then a stray cat killed it.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

I had a siege of 45 goblins all riding jabberers, and I was prepared to lose my entire 15 dwarf army, but only three died, and two were from diving off the cliff into magma.

Cats are probably the kings of anticlimatic battles. If you see something killed by a cat, you know it belongs in this thread.

The forgotten beast Bronzespider McFleshEatingBlood has arrived!

Send the whole military out, an axedwarf lops off a toe to create a spray of blood that sends almost the entire military to the hospital with fingers and toes and feet and eyeballs rotting out of their sockets left right and center.

The beast follows them inside, I lock a door, it tries another path--and walks right into a cage trap.

That one is fake.
Forgotten beasts don't trigger cage traps unless a GCS web is on it.

Mine was probably:
"The carp misses you!
You rush at the carp.
You have been encased in ice.
The carp has been encased in ice.
The carp has been encased in ice.
The carp has been encased in ice.
The carp has been encased in ice.
The carp has been encased in ice.
The carp has been encased in ice.
The carp has been encased in ice.
The carp has been encased in ice.
The carp has been encased in ice.
The carp has been encased in ice.
The carp has been encased in ice.
The carp has been encased in ice.
The carp has been encased in ice."

And I hoped to have an awesome fight <.<
