Watching the local Buzzard population try to get over my fortress.  They'll start flying on top of buildings, but due to my construction's height they just keep going up, up, up...  then fall all the way down to the ground.  It's a delightful sight.

When a caravan arrives with the item that I need to save my fey dwarf. It happens fairly frequently, too.

Alright, seiges, blue metal, that type of stuff doesn't count.  In a way, I don't think booze filled underground cisterns are either.  I suppose a bunch of soldiers playing frisbee with a pelvis after a quick sortie and going back to bed would be a small pleasure, but its a little on the large side.

Here's another example of something small.  It involves cats, and while it didn't make me like them anymore then I did before [I still had them killed] it was somewhat amusing.  I saw all the cats and kittens in the fortress in a 3x3 block flickering back and forth and spilling across the surface.  At first I thought it was a massive cat fight or something until I used k and inspected the center of the cat pile.  They were all frisking about chasing a monarch butterfly.
That is an incredibly cute image.

They were obviously playing "Catball", and they happened to cause a catpile.

I recently had the pleasure of watching a crowd of non-martial dwarves try to hold a party in which a Berserking dwarf had crashed, killing a few people during the festivities. The dwarves, desperate to continue partying, circled around the berserker and watched him pull a new one out of the crowd every few minutes to beat on until dead, and repeat.

This, in no way, interrupted the party.

The feeling that this time, it's me who has the upper hand over the ambushers due to extensive fortress/trap design.

Do you love it because of the reason above, or that they are your next victims?

Reason listed above, of course!

When caravans arrive and hauling trade goods time comes. If I'm not in the middle of a huge stone-dumping project, I usually have a few idlers, or even more than that, and they all descend upon the stockpile like a swarm of bees. It actually looks funny.

The elf diplomat who shows up every year to give me a "stern talking to" about the number of trees I can cut. I'm awaiting the day my pumps and reactor are done so I can build my magma lake and introduce him to it.

My favorite little thing is how a cat or kitten brings the remains of vermin to their owner and leave it for them (partially because I'm a cat owner in real life).  I remember I once had a sick dwarf (well, he had lost his leg, really) and I was checking up on him, to see if he was going to get a crutch or something, and I noticed the little 2s all around his bed, where the little cat that had adopted him was bringing him vermin remains that the dwarves would just pick up and bring to the stockpile.  I thought it was absolutely adorable.
