Lich is the dark god of undeath. Though it is true that light magic can't kill him, it is also true that he can't use light magic.
Eventually Percival will be able to learn light magic, but that is being saved for another time.

For now, how shall Percival fight these monstrous foes? What shall Ephraim do while he's still near Percival's town?

Why did we have to learn cyro and not pyro magic? I mean, WIZARD already knows it and it feels kinda cheap in a way. Also the whole "Light magic=death" So... Our body was born, had the mark on it. And now suddenly we are undead? Hmmmm...

We learned Cryo because we have a strong aversion to heat as a natural undead. I introduced Ephraim for a purpose I'd rather not explain, and to give people a way to use the other mana types that Percival can't use yet.
We were born as a natural undead due to our deal with Lich as the dead Archknight. The curse gave us a mana source, and a body more suitable to our naturally undead self once it stopped being dormant. It's all so simple, and completely explained.

The weapon dungeon can be a monster filled cave, or somewhere deeper into the same forest we were just at.

I'll let you guys have Ephraim learn some of the black magic Percival knows if you really want to, but he'll eventually be baptized, and won't be able to use black magic again. More accurately, he'll know how to, but he'll feel sick from using it. It would still be useful because in fights he'd get a roll for canceling any black magic out for that turn.
Are there any objections to him learning black magic?

Poison is Nature, not Black. I suppose it could also be black, though.

Poison is a part of necromancy. I can see how it would be nature though. I'm considering using Random.org to decide if it is, or isn't, but then I'd be like Red Mage...

Would be an interesting game mechanic if as long as it could be justified, you could cast any spell with any type of magic.

Animal communication is a part of nature magic, so that will go through.
As for Percival, he's in a cave that can weaken his curse. Magic is out of the question. I'll (try) to keep note of the hatchet use.
